CityDance is an outreach program of the Alabama Ballet, providing underprivileged children with the opportunity to learn about all aspects of the art form. This Dance Outreach Program targets grades 3-5. The children explore dance imaging concepts modeled after the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange.

The emphasis of the program is placed on ballet, but supplementary classes in pointe, variations, jazz, modern, and hip hop are included. All students participate in rehearsals for the Workshop Performance in addition to scheduled classes.

Intense classes in Ballet, Pointe, 4 Pointe Method, Variations, Partnering, Contemporary, Conditioning and Repertoire are part of the curriculum. Dancers in the Day Program work on overall technique and artistry while preparing for Performances, competitions, and a career in dance.

Placement is to the discretion of AB School Faculty Requirements: Monday-Thursday a 1.5 hour ballet technique class with 1 hour pointe class and 1 hour of pas de deux, variations, contemporary, or conditioning. and Saturday 1.5 hour ballet technique class. Must be 13 by August 1st . Black leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers and pointe shoes. Black jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes.

Level IV ballet technique class. 1 ½ hour ballet class, three days a week with a 1-hour contemporary class once a week requirement and a 1-hourstretch & conditioning class once a week requirement. Must be 10 by August 1st . Hunter Green leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers. Black jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes.

1st Semester Requirements: Monday-Wednesday a 1.5 hour ballet technique class with 1 hour pointe and contemporary. Optional add-on 1.5 hour ballet technique on Thursday & Saturday. 2nd Semester Requirements: Monday-Thursday a 1.5 hour ballet technique class with 1 hour pointe and contemporary class (Monday-Wednesday). Optional add-on 1.5 hour ballet technique on Saturday. Must be 12 by August 1st . Navy leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers and pointe shoes. Black jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes.

1st Semester Requirements: Monday-Thursday a 1.5 hour ballet technique class with 1 hour pointe and contemporary. Optional add-on 1.5 hour ballet technique on Saturday. 2nd Semester Requirements: Monday-Thursday a 1.5 hour ballet technique class with 1 hour pointe and contemporary class and a 1.5 hour ballet technique on Saturday. Must be 13 by August 1st . Mullberry leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers and pointe shoes. Black jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes.

Level V ballet technique. 1 ½ hour ballet class, three days a week with a 1-hour contemporary class once a week, and a 45 min pre-pointe class twice a week requirement. Must be 11 by August 1st . Red leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers. Black jazz pants or shorts and black jazz shoes. At the discretion of our company physical therapist, pre-pointe may turn into pointe in the spring semester. Readiness for pointe work will be determined on an individual basis and not as a whole class.

For the adult who has some prior experience

Whether you’re a serious student or someone looking for fun, different extra-curricular activity, the state’s premier professional ballet company provides quality training to all. The minimum age for all adult classes is 16. Adults typically range in age from mid-20s and up. If you would like to register for adult tap, please review and complete the online registration form. The Adult Tap Program is a school year program with an optional showcase at the end of the school year.

Beginning ballet technique class. 1 hour class, one day a week requirement. Must be 7 by August 1st Dusty Rose leotard, pink or flesh tone tights, with matching ballet slippers

Ballet technique class for students who have completed Intermediate 1-Advanced and wish to continue classes as their schedule allows. Choose to attend twice a week or three times a week. Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary class in which students have an opportunity to learn contemporary works performed by our professional company.

Level II ballet technique class. 1 hour and 15 min class, two days a week requirement. Must be 8 by August 1 st . Jacaranda leotard, pink or flesh tone tights with matching ballet slippers.

Beginning ballet class. 1 hour class, one day a week requirement. Must be 6 by August 1st Light Blue leotard, white or pink socks, pink ballet slippers

Beginning ballet technique class for boys. 1 hour class, one day a week requirement. Must be 6 by August 1st. White T-Shirt, black shorts or tights, and black or white socks with matching ballet slippers.

Ballet technique class for boys. 1 hour class, one day a week requirement. Must be 10 by August 1st. White T-Shirt, black shorts or tights, and black or white socks with matching ballet slippers.

Level II and III optional jazz class. 45 min class meets once a week. This is not a required class.This class is an optional add-on for any Level II or III student. Uniform color leotard, black jazz pants or shorts with black jazz shoes.

The Dance Discovery Workshops are designed for groups of 50 to 100 students in an assembly atmosphere, where company dancers engage children in the basic history of ballet, dance terms and techniques while performing brief excerpts of work that showcase the depth and variety of the ballet repertoire. (Typically performed in gymnasiums.) This 45 minute-1 hour school assembly targets grades K-6. The company will be available for up to 20 presentations in the greater Birmingham area.

Alabama Ballet School presents its Winter Workshop Performance. This special program features a dynamic blend of classical and contemporary works, thoughtfully curated to highlight the versatility and growth of our Upper School level students.

Join us for a workshop focused on the artistry and technicality of partnering in ballet. Our day will begin with technique class, and each afternoon will consist of pointe, conditioning, partnering and repertoire.

The Alabama Ballet Summer Program is a four-week intensive workshop for intermediate and advanced students ages 11–19. Students attend daily ballet technique, pointe and variations classes, as well as modern dance, jazz and hip-hop classes and seminars on topics important to the developing dancer.

Spend a magical week exploring the world of ballet! Designed for children ages 4–8, this camp offers four fun-filled hours each day of age-appropriate ballet and tap classes, creative ballet-themed crafts, and lessons in storytelling through pantomime.
