About Ann's Studio of Dance

Welcome to Ann's Studio of Dance in Huntsville, Alabama, a premier institution with a rich legacy of dance education spanning over six decades. Founded in 1963, the studio, under the esteemed ownership of Ann Brown and guided by Artistic Director Leigh Ann Bender, offers a comprehensive dance curriculum for students of all ages. Leigh Ann, with extensive international experience and 30 years of faculty tenure, along with Senior Staff Member Missy Stanley, boasting over 30 years of teaching and Dance Masters of America certification, lead a talented team of choreographers including Scout Bender, Amber Tuck-Gately, Taylor Agee, Eisley Anderson, Emily Morring-Smith, Hannah White, and Nonda Brooks. Ann's Studio of Dance provides a supportive and inspiring environment, fostering individual talent from foundational training to advanced performance development. Programs include a nurturing Pre-School program for ages 3-4 blending Ballet, Tap, and Tumbling with Stage Arts, and a Stage Arts Course for ages 5-7 introducing Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Acrobatics. Dedicated classes are available in Ballet (ages 6+), Tap (ages 6+), Jazz (ages 6+), Acrobatics (ages 6+), and energetic Hip Hop. The studio is also home to the Award-Winning ASD Company Dancers (ages 7-18), recognized internationally for their achievements and commitment to philanthropy, often donating prize money to charities. Ann's Studio of Dance actively participates in the local community and supports students pursuing higher education through dance scholarships and professional careers.

Classes

Pointe

All ballet dancers with the technique, strength, discipline and work ethic will be promoted to Pointe at the time that is right for them individually.

Hip Hop

A style of fun, energetic dance form originally inspired from urban street dance. Hip Hop is the most widely used commercial dance style.

Acrobatics

This class teaches the fundamentals of tumbling by focusing on flexibility, conditioning, body control, strength development, and terminology. Students will learn basic body positions and tumbling skills at their level. Acrobatic skills include back bends (bridges), handstands, cartwheels, rolls (forward, backward, straddle), walkovers, aerials, and handsprings.

Jazz

The most popular type of dancing offered today. Basic jazz technique is used including body-conditioning exercises, along with leaps, turns and jumps. The students are also taught many routines that fit today’s music.

Tap

A fun class that teaches the student rhythm, timing and balance using the most modern and inspiring music. Students will learn tap terminology and apply rhythm and timing though combinations taught through out the year.

Ballet

The basis for all dancing and contributes directly to the development of grace, poise and balance. This is the most important class a student will have, as it is the technical basis for all other types of formal dance. Both classical and popular music are used to insure a well-rounded and enjoyable ballet class.

Pre-School

Consists of Ballet, Tap, Tumbling and a Stage Arts Combination Course. This class provides a firm foundation for any type dancing a child may wish to pursue and will include fundamental coordination and timing builders, games and songs. The variety of subject matter offered maintains a high level of interest and stimulates steady progress. From this program we are able to determine the best future course of instruction for successful dance education and training.

Stage Arts Course

All students 5-7 years of age are advised to take our Stage Arts Course consisting of Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Acrobatics to introduce them to all phases of dance and give them a basis on which to choose their major area of future concentration. The variety of subject matter offered maintains a high level of interest and stimulates steady progress.
