This course acquaints all students with traditional forms of dancing such as The Polonaise, Mazurka and other formal and folk dances of the past.

African Dance

Hip Hop

A mixture of Jazz and Street Dance. The Hip Hop program provides students fun and challenging opportunities to express themselves creatively through this urban/street dance style. Classes consist of a warm up before moving into technical foundational work.

Jazz

Jazz is a dance idiom combining classic influenced contemporary movement with various period styles. Basic technique of Jazz will utilize established rhythms and steps with emphasis on style. With its origins in American music developed from ragtime and blues, Jazz is one of the most popular and energetic forms of dance. Jazz, which is characterized by its syncopated rhythms and improvisation, offers the dance student a challenging training.

In the Lower School, students learn how to execute steps in ballet, read and write music, approach the basic techniques of dramatic presentation, and master elemental techniques of design, drawing, color, composition and statements in visual arts. Ballet is difficult, and therefore can seem defeating to a young student if they try to do a technical movement before they are ready.

Public Ballet

Children age 6 or 7 who aim to join the lower school as well as for those of the general public that wants to dance but are not aiming for a career in dance. Public Ballet is offered once a week, to enhance creativity, basic technical skills and body awareness.

Tutu Workshop

Classical tutu construction will be taught in the first course, and romantic tutu construction will be taught in the second course. The method of construction for the bodice in each of these courses is based on the design and construction method employed by Peter Farmer of the Royal Ballet and May Ishimoto, former head costumer of American Ballet Theatre. This skill is extremely valuable and becomes marketable.
