About Gotta Dance!

Gotta Dance!, located in Tucson, Arizona, is a premier, noncompetitive, performance-focused dance studio dedicated to fostering a passion for movement and creative expression in dancers of all ages, abilities, and goals. Our welcoming and nurturing environment is designed to instill a deep appreciation for the art form while building confidence, celebrating individuality, and creating a strong sense of community. We emphasize quality dance technique, self-discipline, and a positive first dance experience for every child, delivered by professional dance educators. Gotta Dance! offers a comprehensive range of dance styles, including foundational techniques in Ballet and Tap, alongside energetic Hip-Hop. Our curriculum caters to progressive development, with programs for Tiny Tots (ages 3-5), Intro and Kids classes (ages 6-9, 5-7, and 8-12 respectively), and Intermediate/Advanced Ballet and Pointe for teenagers (ages 13-19). We also provide Pilates to enhance physical conditioning. Classes are structured to include warm-ups, skills and technique building, across-the-floor work, improvisation, and choreography, culminating in performance opportunities such as community projects and an annual May recital. Classes

Spring Recital

May brings our Spring Recital each year. Neither performance is mandatory but it is extremely rare for a student to not participate. Our performances are lots of fun and very glamorous and exciting for the children.

The Nutcracker Ballet

Each year we produce The Nutcracker Ballet in December. Neither performance is mandatory but it is extremely rare for a student to not participate. Our performances are lots of fun and very glamorous and exciting for the children.

Tiny Tots Intro

Ballet

Your child’s hair should be in a clean, tight, high ballet bun with no hair on their faces. The only exception to the high ballet bun is for Act 1, the party girls will be wearing ringlet hair extensions.

Jazz shoes are required for jazz. If your child participates in more than one genre of dance, they will need all their usual dance shoes for each genre. Please label your dancer's shoes.

Tap shoes are required for tap. If your child participates in more than one genre of dance, they will need all their usual dance shoes for each genre. Please label your dancer's shoes.

NUTCRACKER DRESS REHEARSAL

Dress Rehearsal will be closed to non-dancers, parents and families. The Dress Rehearsal means that rehearse the entire show from start to finish and all dancers execute each one of his or her costume changes.

NUTCRACKER TECHNICAL REHEARSALS

This rehearsal involves showing dancers the facility, stage, backstage, discussing the show process and safety in the theater, and running through the entire show in order to set lighting and test sound. Dancers will practice getting on and off stage safely and timely, and a special photo will be taken.

Act One - Monday, December 16, 2024; Act Two - Tuesday, December 17, 2024. All dancers must be signed in by 4:00 PM.
The Nutcracker Ballet

Performing in The Nutcracker Ballet is a very exciting event for them. They feel very important going into the big theater and having dressing rooms etc. It is all very exciting. Please remember that our kiddos feed off our energy.

The Nutcracker Ballet

The Nutcracker Ballet is a significant part of the dance training process, offering a chance to shine and build self-esteem, self-assurance, and confidence. This performance experience contributes to children's success in non-dance activities, leading to better in-school presentations, improved social skills, and strong interview skills for future opportunities. The rehearsal process also develops retention skills and the positive aspects of teamwork.

Ballet Ensemble
Tuition Fees for Ballet Ensemble are set each year and communicated to families with dancers approved for Ballet Ensemble.

Our advanced ballet dancers are part of our Ballet Ensemble and will take approximately seven hours of ballet instruction per week in the following areas:, Advanced Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Conditioning, Partnering and Choreography in our Ballet Division. Whether dancers want to take classes in Broadway Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary is up to them but highly encouraged. Our advanced ballet dancers are part of our Ballet Ensemble and are expected to perform in our classical Nutcracker Ballet each December.

Pre-Pointe/Pointe

Pre-Pointe is an invitation only class for the dancers who will be enrolled in a minimum of 4 hours of ballet per week. Readiness for pointe is based on age, growth, years of ballet training, strength and technical ability, as determined by the Director. Pointe dancers are required to maintain enrollment in seven hours of ballet instruction per week.

Tap

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Starting with Level 1, dancers will be moved up based on skill, technique and maturity. Tap is a skill that requires practice outside of the classroom if the dancer wants to progress.

Musical Theater

Musical Theater Dance develops theatrical performance qualities in dancers. Simultaneous enrollment in ballet is strongly recommended. Portraying emotion and performance skills are part of this class. while singing is not. This genre of dance is similar to the dancing children see in musical movies such as Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Newsies, Annie, etc.

Hip Hop

A style of dance rooted in rhythm, athleticism, experimentation and group formation.

Jazz

This class is situated in classic jazz technique revolving around rhythm, precision and aesthetics. As students progress through levels they will be exposed to stylistic sub-divisions of the style. Jazz class is a must for the child who wants to be a dancer, especially those interested in musical theater.

Ballet Technique

This class further advances classical ballet training. After the age of 8, dancers are placed in class according to skill, technique and experience level.

A combination of jazz and ballet technique with an additional focus on artistry and emotional connectivity. Previous ballet training and simultaneous enrollment in ballet classes required. Lyrical class is not offered until dancer is old enough to understand and convey emotion to the lyrics of songs. Lyrical is not offered every session.

Tap is an exhilarating form of dance that turns your child's feet into musical instruments! We focus on creating a variety of rhythms with our tap shoes and learning the basic foundational steps of tap dance.

Intro to Musical Theater

Musical theater is genre of dance that is similar to broadway jazz. There are acting skills in addition to dance skills taught in this class. The class revolves around dramatic emotion, story telling and pantomime. This genre of dance is similar to the dancing children see in musical movies such as Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Newsies, Annie, etc. (Vocal instruction is not a part of the class).

Intro to Ballet Technique

This class introduces, develops and further advances classical dance training. We focus on body alignment, rotation, extension and poise. Ballet is the foundation of all dance and we strongly encourage children to begin dancing by learning a solid foundation in ballet.
