Jazz Funk

This new fusion class at CSSD combines jazz and hip hop offering a fast paced and high energy movement class with elements of jazz technique while bringing the expression and hard hitting energy of hip hop!

Tap

A style that combines dance traditions from Europe and Africa. It is a dance of strong rhythms and relies almost totally on footwork. The feet become musical instruments marking out complex rhythms with the heel and the toe. In This class the student will develop a strong sense of music, timing and discipline.

Musical Theatre and Voice and Drama

A fun, fast paced class geared toward the future Broadway star in all of us. This class, takes acting and dancing to a whole new level, combining ballet, jazz and contemporary styles to music and lyrics.

Lyrical

An adaptation of ballet, modern and jazz expressing feeling with a focus on bodylines, balance, and sustained extensions. Higher-level class will include more contemporary skills and floor work. Students of lyrical are strongly encouraged to study ballet and Jazz simultaneously for the best possible lyrical dance experience.

Jazz

A combination of a variety of styles of dance: ballet, African dance, Musical Theater, Modern, and social dances. Jazz dance has a firm technique and strength base, allowing for individualized movement. Jazz is a great form of dance for any age, developing strength and flexibility. Students of jazz are strongly encouraged to study ballet simultaneously for the best possible jazz dance experience.

Hip Hop and Hip Hop Grooves

A fast-paced and exciting class that introduces students to intricate popular movements to hip-hop beats and lyrics. The class may include breaking, popping, and locking. Hip-Hop is a great aerobic workout that develops strength and flexibility. Hip-Hop is constantly changing, and new styles are regularly incorporated into classes.

Contemporary

A style that focuses on unconventional movement. It does not have fixed movement instead it is a search of new forms and dynamics. Oppositional movement, alignment, raw emotion and systematic breathing is its main focus. Contemporary draws from the ballet and modern dance worlds, blending and fusing the genres together to create new vocabulary. This class will draw from Bartinieff, Limon and Horton styles to create a unique class.

Pointe

This is the next step in ballet training. As your ankles strengthen and you gain more advance technique in your ballet training, pointe brings everything to the tips of your toes and trains a dancer to use all muscles to bring grace and poise through their advance technique training. To be enrolled you must be assessed by our ballet instructor.

Ballet

The base of all forms of dance, Ballet technique consists of stylized and controlled movements and positions, which develops ultimate strength and flexibility. Ballet is beneficial at any age, and is a safe form of exercise and building strength. We strongly encourage all of our students enrolled in more than one form of dance to study ballet, as the technique is found in every dance class.

Bit Bop

A very popular combination class which introduces hip-hop movements and floor gymnastics. Hip Hop emphasizes coordination and fun dance moves. Floor gymnastics will include stretching and strengthening to develop the ability to perform such skills as forward rolls, cartwheels and headstands. This class compliments the Combo class. Both classes together form a well-rounded young dancer.

Tiny Tots (Ballet and Tap)

A class for students as young as 24 months. Broken down into 15 minute increments, students learn creative movement while learning a very early instruction into ballet & tap. Great opportunity for those early movers to try different styles.

Lollipop Lyra

Brand new to CSSD, Lollipop Lyra is similar to Lyra or aerial hoop but instead of hanging from the ceiling the hoop is mounted on top of a pole, so you learn aspects of Lyra and aspects of Circus Pole. This style calls for lots of strength and flexibility and students must be able to meet certain criteria to the instructors desire to take.

Acrobatics and Contortion

Acrobatics will teach you balance, flexibility, and motor-coronation. It makes extensive use of gymnastic elements with partners and group settings, including balancing tricks and lifts between students. Contortion is a performance art that pushes extreme stretching to the students and drills flexibility more than the standard training.

Lyra

Lyra or the aerial hoop is a circular apparatus that hangs from the ceiling, on which students can perform aerial acrobatics. This requires lots of strength, balance, and perseverance within each student. To take this class, a student must meet certain criteria.

Aerial Silks

A sub genre of modern dance. It incorporates an apparatus, allowing performers to explore space in three-dimensions. It is the ability to incorporate vertical, as well as horizontal movement; from the ground and in the air. Aerial silk dance conditions and trains the body to work as one with the silk. The possibilities of choreography are endless which allows students to learn in many different ways.
