Monterey County Dance Theatre, located in King City, California, offers a comprehensive dance education designed to foster artistic development and individual achievement. Operating on a structured 10-month academic year from August to June, with an optional 5-week summer term, the studio provides a rich tapestry of dance experiences guided by Artistic Director Janette Lorraine Harkness. With a lifelong passion for movement, Harkness brings extensive training and choreography experience, having explored theatrical dance, tap, ballet from age eight, flamenco, and other character dance forms. Students benefit from this diverse background, with opportunities to explore styles such as ballet, tap, flamenco, and musical theater. Monterey County Dance Theatre divides its programs into three distinct divisions: Pre-School/Young Learners, Student Level, and Adult Level, ensuring personalized course selection based on expressed interests and skill level. Upon completing the application and submitting tuition, students are granted course placement and their spot is reserved for the academic year. The studio aims to foster a love for dance in a supportive environment, with former students having attended prestigious dance institutions, reflecting the quality of instruction. Merit-based scholarships and need-based financial aid are available, awarded at the discretion of Mrs. Janette Harkness BA, for limited periods. Families are encouraged to apply for financial assistance as early as possible, with annual reapplication required.
