Tutu School Monterey

In the Primary Ballet Prep division we develop pure, fundamental ballet technique that will eventually allow our students to graduate to a more disciplined study of the craft – when their growing bodies are ready. In the meantime, we’ll continue to practice our pliés with a healthy helping of magical fun, thank you.

Classes in our Exploring Ballet division strike a perfect balance between structure and creativity. In this division we begin carefully laying the earliest foundation of ballet technique, but we always compliment our class work with fun, imaginative activities that keep young dancers captivated, engaged, and utterly in love with ballet.

Our goal in our Tutu Toddlers division is to work with you to engage your little one and give them an early experience with ballet they’ll never forget. Because at Tutu School we believe that exposing children at a very early age to creativity, movement, and music can only lead to good things.

Ballet for babies? We’re so glad you asked. It’s never too early to expose little ones to movement and music, and Baby Ballet is a carefully curated curriculum for infants aged 6-18 months, with lots of opportunities to foster both caregiver bonding and age-appropriate development.

Primary Prep ballet classes are for children aged 5 to 8 years old. This program focuses on a thoughtful progression of ballet technique, preparing students for more advanced studies. It also emphasizes social skills and imaginative play.

Exploring Ballet is for children aged 3 to 5 years old. This class further develops foundational ballet technique, encouraging creativity and coordination through engaging movement games and Ballet Storytime. Dancers learn in a supportive and playful environment.

Tutu Toddlers is designed for children aged 18 months to 3 years old and involves caregiver participation. This class builds upon early movement skills, introducing more structured activities and fostering socialization. It's a fun and engaging way to explore ballet basics.

Baby Ballet is for children aged 6 to 18 months old and includes caregiver participation. This class focuses on the foundational elements of ballet technique, social interaction, and imaginative play for the youngest dancers. It's a gentle introduction to movement and music.

Primary Ballet Prep 5 – 8 yrs. Even the tiniest dancers at Tutu School learn the basics of ballet in a thoughtful progression, so that they are ready for more advanced study.

Exploring Ballet 3 – 5 yrs. From movement games to Ballet Storytime, we believe in exercising not only little bodies, but also big imaginations.

Tutu Toddlers 1.5 – 3 yrs with caregiver participation. Learning to take a class with others is a part of what we practice, along with our pliés and pirouettes.

Exploring Ballet A/B is for ages 3 – 4 years. Classes are held on Monday from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM and 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM and 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM, Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM, and Friday from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM. Exploring Ballet B/C is for ages 4 – 5 years and meets on Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM and Thursday from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM. Exploring Ballet A/B/C is for ages 3 – 5 years and meets on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM and 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM, and Sunday from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM and 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM. Tutu School asks students in its older divisions to wear leotards or fitted shirts with tights or leggings and ballet slippers. Please tuck in all drawstrings on slippers, and secure long hair away from the face as much as possible. No specific color or style of dancewear is required, and tutus and skirts are absolutely permitted – naturally!

Students in our youngest divisions are invited to wear any clothes that they can move easily in, and should take class with bare feet or rubber-soled socks if they do not have ballet slippers. Adults participating in these classes should also wear comfortable clothes and bare feet or rubber-soled socks.
