About Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley

Ballet Academy of Silicon Valley (BASV), located in Morgan Hill, California, offers a comprehensive and nurturing dance education for students of all levels. Founded in 1977 by Paula Valentine as the Morgan Hill Ballet Company, the studio boasts a rich history of quality dance instruction. Following Paula Valentine's retirement, Juliet Smith took over, renaming it South Valley Dance Arts (SVDA) and continuing a tradition of community-oriented, non-competitive training. In 2019, SVDA merged with BASV, with Marisa Visnaw assuming directorship. BASV upholds its predecessors' values while integrating the rigorous Cecchetti method of classical ballet training, offering graded exams and internationally recognized certifications. Under the artistic direction of accredited Cecchetti teacher Marisa Visnaw, the academy provides a strong foundation in classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and modern dance. The faculty includes distinguished instructor Juliet Smith, experienced in Vaganova style and professional performance; William Prusinowski, an expert in Ukrainian Folk Dance and co-founder of the "Burevisnyky" Ukrainian Dance Group; Kathryn Schieb, certified in Progressing Ballet Technique; and Anne Cirone-Dwyer, who teaches ballet, lyrical, modern, and a Parent & Me program. BASV offers a structured curriculum with Spring Class Schedules and Summer Programs, regular evaluations, and culminates in an annual Spring Performance. Registration is conveniently handled through a secure online portal, with multi-class discounts available. The academy is dedicated to fostering excellence, confidence, and a holistic approach to dance, encouraging collaboration and igniting brilliance in its students.

Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance.
