Barre (All Levels)

Barre was created in 1959 by a ballet dancer named Lotte Berk after injuring her back. Berk combined ballet movements with rehabilitative therapy to form a few methods of exercise. Power barre is positioned on the center floor. Also known as “off the barre”. This class includes high + low impact traditional barre combos using medium and light weights along with other props that change weekly. This class is centered around traditional ballet, dance, yoga and pilates foundations. This is an all-levels class. Arrive early to save your seat at the mat.

K-Pop (All Levels)

K-pop, short for Korean popular music, is a form of popular music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It includes styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, disco, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. Originally known as 'Gayo' in Korea, modern K-pop "idol" culture began in the 1990s. Our K-Pop instructors will either highlight other K-Pop choreographers reteaching combos from various music videos or create their own choreographed influences from various styles of dance. Students should expect to learn fun combos and increase their performance quality.

Reggaeton (Intermediate)

Reggaeton is a hybrid dance form built from salsa, dancehall, and hip-hop influences. It reflects the musical and cultural journey of Jamaican migrants across the Caribbean (especially Puerto Rico, which is credited with creating 'mainstream' Reggaeton) towards Latin American and the United States. Reggaeton blends Jamaican music influences of reggae and dancehall with those of Latin America, such as Bomba and Plena, as well as that of hip hop. Reggaeton focuses on strong and sensual hip movements (commonly known as dancing 'perreo') and often incorporates Hip-Hop grooves and Latin dance technique. In this class, students will learn choreography to gain an understanding of the genre and its associated terminology. See instructor IG to view choreography style.

Twerk (All Levels)

Twerking is a type of dance that came out of the bounce music scene of New Orleans in the late 1980s. Twerking is rhythmic rotating, revolving and waving movements of the pelvis to make the booty shake. During your lessons, you will learn the twerking techniques. Each class includes a booty camp, which focuses on glute and leg activation. Plus isolation exercises to help tone and strengthen the hips, legs, glutes and back. You will also work on “core” twerk moves to develop twerk skill. You will then learn different twerk moves, shapes, holds and techniques that will be combined into a short sequence so that you and the whole class can shake your booty’s together.

DRENCHED! is a signature Rae Studios cardio dance-based class created by Jessica Rae featuring pre-choreographed dance combos. Music genres include Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Dancehall, Afro Dance, Reggaeton, and Pop. In this class, prepare to bring a towel and bottled water. Class will continuously move with three levels of movement. Levels 1-2 are easy to follow with Level 3 designed to move vigorously while pushing choreography retention. We suggest taking this class for at least 3-5 weeks to get in the swing of learning combos. Class is great for all levels. Modified movements available and instructed by the teacher for every class.

The origin of the name “belly dance” comes from the French Danse du ventre, which translates “dance of the stomach”. Classes begin with a pilates grounded warm up to activate the core and into belly dance fundamentals, learning body placement, building on muscle memory and intermediate choreographed combinations. In this spotlight class you will train with Sassi Fran, a local San Francisco drag artist, to master an intermediate jazz funk piece and gain confidence in performance and stage presence. Starting off with basic conditioning, foundations in turns, and kicks, then we’ll dive into the choreography. We will be focusing on stage presence then perform in smaller groups at the end of class to showcase what we’ve learned. Each small group will get filmed but you are not required to be in the video if you don’t wish to be filmed (although it is encouraged for self improvement).

Salsa (All Levels)

Salsa is a Latin dance, associated with the music genre of the same name, which was first popularized in the United States in the 1960s in New York City. Salsa is a partnered dance where the lead takes the follower through a series of spins and turn patterns to music. Salsa's tempo ranges from about 60 bpm (beats per minute) to around 130 bpm, although most dancing is done to music somewhere between 80 and 120 bpm.

Pop Jam originates from dance-pop, a popular music sub-genre that originated in the late 1970s to early 1980s. It is generally uptempo music intended for nightclubs with the intention of being danceable. Pop Jam is influenced by various dance styles including, Jazz Funk, Hip-Hop, and Latin dance. Contemporary Jazz is a dance form rooted from Africa that shares movement characteristics with classical ballet, modern dance and contemporary influences, and traditional jazz. This class starts with a full body warm up, core activation, across the floor, an int/adv class combo with an emphasis on personal expression and technique. This class will focus on a more enhanced routine with a chance for more performative jumps and turns to highlight skills, movement, and musicality.

Jazz Funk dance, a super-set of Jazz and influenced by the Hip Hop dance style. This style of dance is usually fast-paced pointed gestures and quick movements. In this class, you are expected to have basic knowledge of jazz foundations while learning quick pace combos emphasizing on feminism and intricate movements.

Shuffle (Beg)

Shuffle originated in Melbourne, Australia in the late 1980’s and was danced in the club scene to EDM music. Over the years shuffling has taken the world by storm from clubs to festivals. Shuffling is known to be inclusive, freedom, spiritual, liberating, free of judgment, true expression. Shuffle Dance connects you with the music you love in a special way. In this class students will learn basic shuffle skills like the running man, and the T-step, while also learning to incorporate their own stylistic movements.

Come explore the smoother side of commercial dance with this RnB technique class! Grounded in hip-hop style, RnB dance uses a vocabulary of smooth movements, isolations, and urban footwork to build slower tempo choreography that is feel good, look good, and full of swagger - all danced to your favorite RnB hits!

Your class goals are to strive to connect the mind and body through fluid dance movements.

The history of dancing in heels goes back to the early 20th century, However, the teaching of the art of Heels was popularized around the globe in the early 21st century by artists such as Aisha Francis, Danielle Polanco, and Yannis Marshall. Heels is a choreographed dance class for students utilizing any type of high-heeled shoes, not necessarily character heels.

Join us for a 2 hour spotlight workshop blending the artistry of heels with the vibrant grooves of reggaeton. Part 1: Heels fundamentals — posture, lines, and technique. Part 2: Choreography — a combo of at least six 8-counts to bring it all together. This workshop is open to all levels, with a focus on beginner and intermediate dancers. Heels are optional — come as you are with curiosity, energy, and a willingness to learn.

This class is a Spotlight class blending your favorite Holiday Pop Stars into one performance number. Students are encouraged to have at least 3 months training of Pop Jam, Jazz Funk, or Hip Hop at an intermediate level to attend this workshop. In this class, you will learn signature Pop Jam struts, combos, formations, facials, and stage presence to perform in costume and in front of a camera! Take home videos and socials and encouraged.
