About A Squared Academy of Dance

A Squared Academy of Dance, located in Santa Monica, California, is a vibrant community dedicated to fostering talent and passion in young dancers of all ages and levels. Founded by Annie Guest and Ariella Maman, who bring over 25 years of combined experience in training and choreography, the academy is built on a foundation of commitment, structure, and a supportive atmosphere. Ariella holds a BFA in Dance Theater from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, while Annie possesses a BA in Dance and Drama alongside a BA in American Studies. The academy emphasizes body awareness and mindfulness around movement, enabling students to achieve their technical, creative, and individual potential. Students not only engage in competitive dance but also learn valuable teamwork skills, celebrating each other's individuality. The curriculum offers a diverse range of styles, including Ballet taught by Matisse Love, Mizuki Sako, and Camille Goldsborough; Hip Hop and Jazz led by Shanae Trujillo-Padilla and Mizuki Sako; Contemporary guided by Mizuki Sako; and Acrobatics and Flexibility training with Lexi Alyssa and Carson Breen. Isidora Villagra and Kira Stray further enrich the Hip Hop and Jazz Tech offerings. A Squared Academy of Dance provides structured dance training with transparent pricing, discounts for multiple classes and siblings, and opportunities to participate in an annual Spring Showcase. ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, lyrical, hip-hop, and acro

Academy members train in the styles of ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, lyrical, hip-hop, and acro. Students must be at least eight years old and audition to become part of the Academy. Once admitted academy dancers become members of our award-winning competitive team and are required to attend a certain amount of classes and rehearsals each week based on age.

Sensory Friendly Uniform

For students with sensory needs that do not work with the standard dress codes. We will work with you to find something comfortable and appropriate for them.

Acro

Acro classes for students aged 4 and up. Attire includes leos, leggings, fitted joggers, bike shorts, fitted T-shirts or tank tops, unitards, fitted warm up sweaters or dance jackets, sports bras or fitted crop tops. No T-Shirts that go over the head allowed. No skirts/tutus allowed. Long hair should be pulled back neatly and securely tied out of face.

Jazz/Contemporary/Lyrical

Classes for students aged 6 and up. Attire includes tan jazz shoes or half soles, leos, leggings, fitted joggers, bike shorts, fitted T-shirts or tank tops, fitted warm up sweaters or dance jackets, sports bras or fitted crop tops. Long hair should be pulled back neatly and securely tied out of face.

Hip Hop

Hip-Hop classes for students aged 5 and up. Attire includes non-marking clean tennis shoes with socks, leos, fitted joggers, bike shorts, athletic shorts, fitted T-shirts or tank tops, fitted warm up sweaters or dance jackets, sports bras or fitted crop tops. Long hair should be pulled back neatly and securely tied out of face.

Ballet

Ballet classes for students aged 6 and up. Female-Identifying Ballet Uniform: Black Leotard, pink tights or tights to match skin-tone, pink ballet shoes or ballet shoes to match skin-tone. Male-Identifying Ballet Uniform: Black Footless tights, white fitted t-shirt, white socks and black ballet shoes. Non-Binary/Gender Neutral Ballet Uniform: Students may choose a combination from the female and male identifying ballet uniforms.

Parent/Caretaker & Me

Class for parents and their young children to experience dance together. Dress code is movement/dance clothing of any sort, leggings, form fitting t-shirt, tights, leos, bike shorts, tutus, etc. Students should wear pink or black ballet shoes, or tan jazz shoes. Long hair should be cleanly pulled out of face and secured.

Pre-Academy Spring Session

Spring session runs January 26th, 2026 through June 6th, 2026. We continue the work we started in fall while also preparing choreography for our Spring Showcase.

Pre-Academy Fall Session

Pre-Academy Fall Session runs September 2nd, 2025 through January 24th, 2026. Students work on developing foundational physical skills and coordination, fostering creativity and imagination, and learning dance vocabulary all while having fun.

Pre-Academy Program

Our Pre-Academy program is currently for students at the beginning of their journey with dance or students that dance recreationally. Students work on developing foundational physical skills and coordination, fostering creativity and imagination, and learning dance vocabulary all while having fun.
