About Ventura High School Dance

Under the leadership of Program Director Taylor Moore, a seasoned educator with extensive industry and performance experience, the program offers a comprehensive approach to dance training. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre and a Master's in Education, with credentials in CTE, Physical Education, and Dance Education, embodying a philosophy that dance training is life training. The curriculum provides a diverse range of foundational classes, including Dance and Rhythmics 1 and 2, focusing on alignment, body awareness, and technical skill development. Students explore a wide array of styles such as Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Cultural, Tap, and Contemporary Lyrical. Classes

DANCE AND RHYTHMICS 1

Dance and Rhythmics class will introduce students to the fundamentals of dance, while also encouraging students to explore in their dance movement. Each class will begin with a warm-up focusing on alignment and body awareness. Center-floor and across the floor exercises will emphasize working with different rhythms and movements. Dancers will also learn a variety of technique as well as key vocabulary terms pertaining to different dance styles. Dance styles learned in class will be Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Cultural, Tap, and Contemporary Lyrical. Students will be asked to learn, choreograph, perform, and observe combinations throughout the semester and analyze their peers. This class will culminate with a final showcase at the end of each semester.

Hip Hop Team

Ventura High School introduces our Hip Hop Team class, which is a performance based team and part of your school schedule. Hip Hop team is Hip Hop dance based and focuses on training, performance, and competing. Performance opportunities consist of Football games, Basketball games, competitions across California, and showcases. Admittance onto the team requires an in person audition typically held every May. Dancer’s must be intermediate to advanced skilled in Hip Hop dance, acrobatics and gymnastic skills are a bonus. You must have a minimum of one year dance experience. All grades are welcome to audition, including incoming freshman. Dancer’s must hold a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average in order to perform.

Dance Team

Ventura High School introduces our Dance Team class, which is a performance based team and part of your school schedule. Dance Team is Jazz and Contemporary based and focuses on training, performance, and competing. Performance opportunities consist of Football games, Basketball games, competitions across California, and showcases. Admittance onto the team requires an in person audition typically held every May. Dancer’s must be intermediate to advanced skilled in Jazz and Contemporary, and have a minimum of one year of dance under their belt’s. All grades are welcome to audition, including incoming freshman. Dancer’s must hold a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average in order to perform.

DANCE & RHYTHMICS 2

Pre-Requisite Required: Student must take and pass Dance and Rhythmics 1 in order to take Dance and Rhythmics 2. Each class will begin with a warm-up focusing on alignment and body awareness. Center-floor and across the floor exercises will emphasize working on advancing students technical dance skills that they gained in the Dance and Rhymics 1 course. Students will be asked to learn, choreograph, perform and observe routines throughout the semester. Students will be asked to choreograph based on generalizing and conceptualizing work. Students will be asked to organize and develop choreographic elements, and analyze artistic work for presentation. This class will culminate with a final dance showcase at the end of each semester.
