CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Creative Movement classes introduce a structured environment while allowing children to recognize their own individuality and body mobility. Focus is on coordination and rhythm introduced in creative and imaginative ways. Keeping students entertained while learning beginning dance skills will help them to acquire a lifelong love for dance.

Combo Classes - Ballet/Jazz & Ballet/Tap

Perfect for the younger student, this class is designed as an introduction to dance. The class will explore movement through music, stimulate students’ imagination and promote creativity. It will also give them an understanding of the classroom community, improve social skills and develop fine motor skills all while having fun! The dancers will learn the first fundamentals of beginning ballet positions and step as well as learning to count to music. In a combination ballet/jazz class the dancer will also learn the beginning techniques to jazz dance. Jazz dance is done to fun upbeat music and is like the mainstream dance you see on television today. If the dancer is enrolled in a ballet and tap class they will learn the beginning techniques of tap dancing.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop Dance is a style of movement characterized by bounces and rocks executed to Hip Hop music.

TAP

Tap dance is a dance performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps, characterized by rhythmical tapping of the toes and heels. It is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses on musicality, and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the jazz or hip hop tradition. Tap Dance was developed in the USA during the 19th century. The name Tap comes from the tapping sound made when the metal plates on the tap shoe connects with the hard surface of the floor. This lively, rhythmic dance makes the performer not just a dancer but somewhat of a percussionist as well. Precise, rhythmical patterns of foot movement and tapping will be taught.

JAZZ

Jazz dance is a social dance style that emerged at the turn of the 20th century when African American dancers began blending traditional African steps with European styles of movement.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

This form of dance is most often seen in contemporary music shows, like Cirque du Soleil and the television show “So You Think You Can Dance”. The goal of the lyrical dancers is to convey the emotion of a song’s lyrics. Intense emotional expression of the face and body are necessary to tell a story that evolves along the lines of the song to which lyrical dance is performed. Characteristics of this style are flowing dance moves that connect throughout the dance. The upper body movements to be quite different form ballet styles, with body angles unfamiliar to either jazz or ballet.

BALLET & POINTE

Ballet is a classical dance form. Ballet is one of the most important classes in a dancers training, as it is the foundation for all other dance forms. Ballet is often characterized by grace, precision of movement, elaborate steps and poses; a theatrical presentation of dancing to a musical accompaniment, usually with costumes and scenes to conveying a story or theme. Body movements are usually choreographed to classical music. Dancers begin with exercises at the barre and then move into the center of the room and across the floor for more technical training. Our dancers begin classical ballet training around the age of 7 with a class called Ballet 1. The dancer will usually train in a level for two to three years before advancing to the next level. Dancers must be proficient in all the skills of a level before they will advance to the next level. Infinite Dance ballet curriculum is mostly the Russian method of Vaganova and Balanchine. These methods originated in Russia and have very expressive upper body work accompanied with extensive lower body strengthening. This is also the chosen method for the Colorado Ballet.
