Musical Theater Jazz

Musical Theater Jazz evolved on Broadway from the 1950s into the new, smooth style seen today. This style of jazz was popularized by Broadway shows such as Chicago and Cabaret . It is also used in large scale musicals seen today such as Wicked , Fame , and Grease . This style builds on the foundation skills taught in beginner jazz and will improve techniques as the dancers learn exciting and challenging choreography.

Breakin'

Breakdancing, also known as b-boying/b-girling, is one of the original four elements of hip hop culture and is suitable for anyone aged 5 and up. This dance style is the physical expression of hip hop music, allowing dancers to use rhythm, coordination, power, strength, balance, and character. Learning the art of breakin' not only allows dancers to be free in their own style, but also enhances traditional dance attributes related to training and choreography.

Hip Hop

The street dance style is all about embracing the popular urban youth culture, with its sharp and isolated movements that ooze with style. The energy is high and the music is always on point, making it a favorite among the younger generation. It's a dance form that thrives on the streets, showcasing the latest trends and moves that capture the essence of modern urban life. With its distinct accents and bold choreography, street dance is a powerful and expressive art form that continues to evolve and inspire.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a dynamic and diverse art form that incorporates elements from various styles of dance. It often involves changes in rhythm, speed, and direction, creating a visually captivating experience for the audience. This style of dance combines both ballet and modern techniques, showcasing a range of movements and expressions. With the inclusion of contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation, contemporary dance allows for creativity and innovation in choreography. It is an exciting and evolving genre that pushes the boundaries of traditional dance, appealing to both dancers and spectators alike.

Lyrical

Through the exploration of balance, body alignment, and muscle memory, dancers will have the opportunity to express lyrical qualities of movement. This choreography not only focuses on the development of strength and flexibility, but also on acquiring a solid dance technique. It is essential for dancers to have previous training in ballet and/or jazz in order to fully engage in this expressive journey. The challenges presented in this choreography encourage dancers to delve deep into their personal artistry, allowing them to express themselves through movement in a truly impactful way.
