About Brass City Ballet

Brass City Ballet, nestled in Middlebury, Connecticut, offers a comprehensive dance education for students of all ages and experience levels, fostering artistic excellence and a lifelong passion for dance. Founded with a vision for artistic excellence by Artistic Director Emerita Elizabeth Barisser, the studio celebrates 40 years of leadership. Our distinguished faculty, comprising professional dancers, choreographers, and educators, includes Ballet Faculty members Alison Rose and Caitlyn Sullivan, Ballet and Modern Dance Faculty member Deanna Russo, and alumna Eleanor Barisser as Ballet and Improv/Comp Faculty. Brass City Ballet provides a strong foundation in fundamental dance genres, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, Ballroom, and Flamenco. We offer a nurturing environment with two distinct programs: Recreational, for those seeking an enjoyable activity with less commitment, and Concentrated Studies, for a more intensive experience with advanced training and performance opportunities. Students as young as 18 months can explore movement, while older dancers can delve into the rigorous Vaganova Syllabus for Classical Ballet. Concentrated studies include a Ballet Certificate Program with opportunities to audition for the Brass City Ballet Company, which offers additional performance experiences and collaborations with guest artists. All students have opportunities to perform in the year-end Season Finale and The Nutcracker, with audition opportunities for the Gala available for ages five and up. Adult dancers are also welcomed with dedicated Adult Ballet classes. Brass City Ballet is committed to providing a positive learning experience, emphasizing technique, performance readiness, self-expression, and building confidence.

Brass City Ballet Company classes
additional fee

Students who are part of the Brass City Ballet Company, are given additional opportunities to perform throughout the year. Brass City Ballet Company’s main event is the Gala when student dancers have the privilege of working with guest artists and performing new and original works with resident and visiting choreographers. Brass City Ballet Company dancers pay an additional fee to participate in the company as the hours of rehearsal and performance are considered an extension of their existing dance education. BCB Company dancers are not required to audition for The Nutcracker or Gala and are exempt from fees for both productions. In addition to their regular class schedule, BCB Company members attend their own company class separate from the other levels. BCB Company members receive a progress report at the end of the year.
