Academy of the Dance / Wilmington Ballet, located in Wilmington, Delaware, is a prestigious institution dedicated to cultivating a lifelong passion for dance. With a rich history of nurturing aspiring artists of all ages, the studio offers a comprehensive dance education across a wide range of disciplines, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary dance. Executive & Artistic Director Benjamin Sterling Cannon leads the academy, continuing its legacy of excellence. The faculty comprises highly skilled instructors such as Ballet Teaching Artists Karen Hostler and Hannah Snyder, Royal Academy & Tap Teaching Artist Debbie Coupe, Rachelle Rafailedes for Jazz and Modern, and Miguel Quinones specializing in Contemporary and Modern dance. The curriculum is structured to provide a strong foundation, fostering self-expression, confidence, and group socialization for its youngest students (ages 4-6) in the Royal Academy program, which introduces fundamental dance movements and creative arts. For older students and adults, open level classes (ages 13+) cater to all levels, from beginning to advanced. Intermediate and advanced dancers can elevate their skills with specialized training in Pre-Pointe, Pointe technique, Variations, and Partnering, focusing on advanced technique, movement vocabulary, and personal artistry. The studio emphasizes a supportive and engaging learning environment guided by experienced Teaching Artists. Alumni have achieved remarkable success in the professional dance world, performing with renowned companies and contributing to the arts as directors and choreographers, reflecting the impactful training provided. Registration for the academic year 2025-2026, running from September 8, 2025, to June 7, 2026, along with Summer 2026 sessions, is now open.
