About Melody Lane Performing Arts Center

Melody Lane Performing Arts Center, located in Cape Coral, Florida, is a vibrant non-profit hub for artistic development, founded in 2017. We foster a passion for the performing arts, nurturing talent in dance, acting, and voice for students of all ages and skill levels. Our comprehensive dance curriculum includes foundational grace in Ballet, rhythmic expression in Tap, dynamic movements in Jazz, energetic Hip Hop, and emotional storytelling through Lyrical and Contemporary styles. We also offer Acrobatics training. The "Triple Threat" program and our renowned Musical Theater program, significantly shaped by the extensive directing experience of Dana M Alvarez, prepare well-rounded performers. Our dedicated faculty boasts impressive professional backgrounds, including Co-Directors Sami Doherty, whose musical theater work is extensive, and Ginger Lynn, with decades of studio ownership and performance experience, alongside Danielle Irons, an expert in Acro and Gymnastics. The Melody Lane Theatre Company, an integral part of the PAC, produces major musicals, offering students valuable ensemble and performance experience. We have staged acclaimed youth productions for Disney, including Lion King JR, Finding Nemo JR, and Frozen JR, and teen productions like Les Miserables School Edition. Our commitment to excellence was honored with "Outstanding Performance" at the Junior Theater Festival Awards, recognizing our students' achievements in audition, education, and performance, including our New Works Showcase. Classes

Tumbling

Levels 1, 2, & 3 Curriculum based on skill level, not age ( Instructor may choose to level class(s) according to age/ability). Based on USA Gymnastics regulations. Students will learn basic tumbling skills and knowledge of core strength such as handstands, bridges, walk overs, rolls, etc. and learn to build upon these with difficulty, complexity, and power. Levels 2 & 3 will learn to build combinations of skills into tumbling progressions. Performance skills will also be applied to training. Parents and students must consult an instructor before enrolling in any level.

Tap

Levels 1, 2, & 3, Adult // Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear and crisp tap sounds. As students’ progress curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Triple Threat

A “Triple Threat” Performing is someone experienced and well trained in voice, acting, and dance- and that is exactly what this class entails! A truly well rounded and inclusive Musical Theatre Class where young performers can be creative, gain technical skills, express themselves, and most importantly have a lot of FUN!!!! Jazz

Levels 1, 2, & 3 // In Jazz, dance members will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Funk, Street, and Contemporary. to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students’ progress steps, styles and dance combinations will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop- Level 1 // Students will begin to learn popular dance moves and a variation of styles of hip hop. They will learn to become familiar with different genres, and will focus on fundamental movements. Hip Hop- Level 2 // At this stage students should be familiar with different styles, it is at this stage where we piece together different movements and explore the art of freestyle to inspire creativity! Hip Hop- Level 3 // We focus on learning choreography! We will be making connections to the music and focusing on the importance of performance. Dancers will learn to add there own personal style to the movement and make it there own!

Creative Movement

Creative Movement is a great introductory class which not only helps kids with basic motor skills but also helps them acclimate to the general structure of a class room! Students get coordination and basic technique in ballet, tap, jazz, music, and tumbling all under the guides of fun and games! These games are designed to be fast pasted and extremely engaging, sometimes they even involve props such as hula hoops, scarfs, parachute, musical instruments, teddy bears, etc.

Ballet/Tap/Tumble

This combination class includes Tap, Ballet, and Creative Movement for pre-schoolers.  In Tap, the students learn to focus on the beat of the music learning shuffles, flaps, heels, ball changes, and other Tap movements.  During Ballet, French terminology will be taught to the dancers as well as the proper technique.  Dancers can be expected to learn terms such as plie, tendu, cambre, releve, passe, arabesque and more!  Then we begin a tumbling segment where the dancers learn forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, bridges, and handstands.

Ballet

Levels 1, 1 &2, 2, 3, Pre-Pointe, Pointe Offered in three levels of skill comprehension with a focus on Cecchetti and Russian methods. A combination of barre, center, and floor work exercises are executed.
