Classes

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a high energy, freestyle class that emphasizes rhythm, athleticism, and personal expression. The urban culture style, so popular with this country's youth, provides a funkier edge to the basic styles of dance. It originates from street style, urban funk, contemporary jazz, modern, Latin and Break dance. Hip Hop dance focuses on style, staging, presentation and self-expression.

Tap

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun.

Musical Theater

Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

Jazz

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.

Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary

Ballet is known as the foundation of dance. Ballet classes focus on posture, balance, self-discipline, grace, self-confidence, and individual expression. Ballet teaches students to develop their muscular strength and coordination. All pointe classes are by invitation only and students must be concurrently enrolled in ballet class. Pointe is done in specific "pointe" shoes that require special fitting. Pointe is an advanced form of ballet and therefore only trained, matured students will be considered for pointe class. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Tumble Tots

A 30 minute class that introduces basic acrobatic skills such as rolls, somersaults, cartwheels, balance beam and exercises on tumbling mats. Students are taught skills that will increase their strength, flexibility and coordination.

Acrobatics

These classes range from 30 minutes to 55 minutes depending on the skill level. The skills taught in acrobatics include basic tumbling through advanced acrobatics. Acrobatics assists in the development of the dancer by enhancing flexibility, balance, strength and coordination.

Mommy and Me

Mommy & Me dance classes are for children 18 months up to the age of 3 years. Music, movement, balance and the basic dance steps are introduced in a fun, friendly and positive manner. This type of class includes mom or dad or another loved one participating in the class along with the little dancer. Our teachers will keep the music and curriculum moving along while parents take an active role in encouraging, supporting and keeping the little dancer on track.

Wee Hop (Ages 4-6)

This 30 minute class is an introduction to hip hop technique, rhythm exercises and body awareness through creative exercises and combinations. Wee hop introduces your young ones to the basics of hip hop all while having a good time. This class teaches rhythm and body awareness to children 4-6 years of age through creative and engaging exercises and combinations. It focuses on the inclusive "energy" of hip hop with age appropriate steps and music. This fun, upbeat class will keep them moving!

Creative Movements 2 (Ages 5-6)

A 45 minute combo class building upon knowledge gained in Foundations and Creative Movement 1. Introductory level ballet and tap are continued at this level. There is a very distinct increase and improvement in attentiveness, learning ability, memorization of steps, rhythm and overall motor skills in Creative Movement 2. Students possess the ability to execute steps solo, recognize terminology and perform with a certain degree of showmanship.

Creative Movements 1 (Ages 4-5)

A 45 minute combo class that combines ballet, and beginners tap. This class builds on previous movement taught in Foundations. Students are taught mental and physical awareness, encouraged to use their imagination, taught to distinguish left from right, and combine song and dance to demonstrate creative movement.

Foundations (Ages 3-4)

A 30 minute class that introduces students to ballet through the use of fun games and creative stories and songs. For many students this is their first experience in a classroom setting, therefore instructors stress the importance of establishing a strong teacher/student bond. This is best accomplished in the absence of the parent, in a nurturing environment where students can feel safe and learn to trust their instructors. All dance rooms are equipped with viewing windows to allow parents to observe class in an unobtrusive way, with or without their child's knowledge.
