Lyrical

Learning how to dance is an achievement in and of itself, but being a diverse dancer is a gift that not many have the opportunity to have. The beauty behind jazz, lyrical, and contemporary is that it teaches you how to move to several types of music and use different rhythms, movement, and technique every time.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance originated in the 1950’s and is a fusion of ballet, modern, and jazz dance. The style focuses on non-standard movements to express sentiment. Furthermore, common elements emphasized in contemporary dance include floor work, and focus on the importance of using the breath when dancing.

Jazz

Jazz is one of the most historic forms of dance, and at Ascendance our Jazz classes stay true to history. Jazz has evolved as a free-form style that develops as the music increases and decreases in pace. With a strong focus on technique, jazz encompasses style and strength. In addition, students will learn a variety of movements to enhance their technical dance foundation, as well as develop their individual style.

Flamenco Classes

If you are looking for your child to try a style that is completely unique and exotic, flamenco may be a great choice! With its origins in the southern region of Spain, flamenco has strong influences from the Andalusian gypsies and cultures of southern Asia. Further, flamenco is a style that incorporates intricate footwork with graceful hand motions. The different styles of music dictate the intensity of the foot movement and the feet, hands, body, and face all amplify each other in this cultural and intense style of dance. This genre of dance also incorporates other percussion instruments like castanets, bells, tambourines, etc to add rhythm to choreographic pieces.

Ballet/Tap Fusion Classes

For our younger artists, we offer the chance to take a dip into the vast ocean of rhythm and indulge in the basics of tap dance. From the very early age of three years old, our dancers are trained in ballet/tap fusion classes where 30 minutes of the class are dedicated to ballet technique and the other 30 to musicality and rhythm.

Ballet

At Ascendance Studio, above all, we ensure that your children get the best dance education possible. By utilizing various props and upbeat music we provide affordable ballet classes at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels to teach our students how to properly perform exercises at the barre, across-the-floor, and in the center of the classroom. Our ballet program goes beyond learning to be graceful and gentle. We emphasize a strict curriculum where proper technique is at the base. Similarly, all of our classes are 60 minutes long and provide a fun, educational atmosphere where students are encouraged to both challenge and express themselves using the skills and steps learned in class. Our goal is to inspire all of our students to not only be able to recognize and utilize proper technique and terminology, but to spark their own passion for dance.

Ballet Classes

Ascendance Studio offers ballet classes to various age levels starting at three years old through pre-school and on. In addition, there are also classes for teenagers, whether they have trained in ballet in the past or at a beginner level. At Ascendance, we recognize that ballet is the foundation of all dance language. Based on stylized music and a classic foundation, we strongly emphasize the importance of ballet technique in our classes. Usually performed to instrumental music, students are guided through the basics of ballet from positions, barre work, and exercises across the floor, to other floor work and combinations building strength and technique. Since ballet is at the core of all dance styles, it is integral in our curriculum. Ballet is precise, highly formalized, and disciplined. It will strengthen dancers beyond their own expectations and allow them to develop proper and fundamental dance technique. Dancers will become physically stronger, develop their core muscles, lengthen their muscles, and challenge their minds. They will improve their posture, balance, musicality, grace, and flexibility. At Ascendance Studio, it is highly recommended to take at least one ballet class, in addition to other styles.

Flamenco

Flamenco is known by the grace movement of the hands as well as the controlled rhythmical movements of the feet. The dancers try to express their deepest emotions by using body movements and facial expressions. Today, flamenco dance is becoming more popular worldwide, not only because of its beauty, but because this form of dance teaches how to isolate movement and strengthen the muscles. It allows for an inner sense of the body that informs, where, and what each part of the body is doing at all times.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a style of expression and therefore can be a very effective stress reliever. The music associated with this genre of dance tends to be softer and more soothing than the music for other styles of dance. Dancers aim to correlate their movements to the changing rhythms of the music by utilizing the control and technical skills that they have learned in class. Lyrical teaches patience and determination when aiming to master new skills, especially those that require multiple weeks or even months to perfect.
