About Karl and DiMarco South

Karl and DiMarco South in Tampa, Florida, is a premier dance studio offering a comprehensive dance education for all ages and experience levels. Led by Owner and Creative Director Shea Alvarez, the studio cultivates a nurturing and inspiring environment where dancers can build confidence and artistry. Our robust curriculum encompasses a wide array of genuine dance genres, including foundational Ballet, dynamic Jazz, expressive Contemporary, energetic Hip Hop, engaging Musical Theater, rhythmic Tap, fluid Lyrical, and foundational Acrobatics. We also offer specialized Combo classes for young children exploring movement for the first time. The studio fosters a supportive and fun environment, regularly hosting special events, workshops, and pop-up classes to engage the community and offer unique learning experiences. Registration for the 2025-2026 season opens June 18th for current families and July 1st for new families, with classes commencing August 11th.

Classes

ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and technique

We recommend that dancers take at least one year of ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and technique before auditioning for the competition team. Our competition team is for ages 7-18, and they perform and compete throughout the season as well as attend conventions.

PREP level classes

These dancers are encouraged, but not required to take PREP level classes. Our prep team is for ages 7-18 for dancers who would like multiple opportunities to perform and compete throughout the season.

Precision Dance

This class is for heels training (theater jazz style class in character heels to work ankle stability and style).

Technique & PBT

These classes focus on technique, jumps and turns with a foundation in ballet, jazz and modern. Flexibility and strength are also a focus in this class making it a great addition to any dancer’s training. These classes do not have a recital dance.

Acro

These classes included all forms of floor tricks. Acrobatic training is extremely helpful for flexibility and strength that are essential in all styles of dance. Our classes use Acrobatic Arts curriculum for all levels.

Transition

These classes are an hour and a half and for our dancers ages 5-7 who are “transitioning” from Combo to hour long Level I classes. This is the perfect combination of 2 styles of dance that gives the dancer the exposure to more than one style within one class.

Lyrical

These classes have a foundation in ballet technique and use contemporary movement and music with a classical influence.

Tap

Tap is so important for rhythm, musicality and timing as a dancer. This is a great accompaniment to every dancer’s training no matter the age.

Combo

These classes are for our tiny dancers (ages 3-5) that want to experience the art of dance in a structured yet fun setting. We incorporate Ballet, Jazz, and/or Tap into these hour long classes.

Musical Theater

These classes are based in jazz technique and combine the art of dance and theatre. Dancers will learn to portray characters through the Broadway style choreography.

Hip Hop

These classes include all forms of street dancing such as jazz funk, popping, breaking, free style & more.

Contemporary

These classes have a foundation in ballet technique and are a fusion of multiple styles of dance. Contemporary classes explore movement and improvisation to enhance the dancer’s training

Jazz

Classes are structured to teach technique, musicality and style to contemporary and current music. Technical elements such as jumps, turns and kicks are of focus while incorporating movement and choreography to create well rounded dancers.

Ballet

Classical ballet technique is taught with an emphasis on alignment, flexibility and placement. It is the foundation for many styles of dance and is a beneficial to all dancers.

Company Showcase

Our performance, prep and competition teams with choreography by K&D south faculty and industry professionals. This showcase highlights the talent and dedication of our dancers.

Private Lesson Studio Rental
$20.00

Private lessons are a great way to get individual attention on technique, flexibility and choreography. Each instructor has their own rate for private lessons. Their fee will be in addition to the studio rental fee.
