About Sawnee School of the Arts

Sawnee School of the Arts, located in Cumming, Georgia, is the longest-established dance studio in Forsyth County, with roots tracing back to 1990 as Sawnee School of Ballet. Under the guidance of its late founder, Joan Kall Stewart, the school has cultivated a reputation for excellence, offering a comprehensive dance education for students of all ages and skill levels. Our experienced and caring faculty provide personalized instruction across a diverse curriculum. Dancers can explore classical Ballet, energetic Hip Hop, expressive Jazz, rhythmic Tap, contemporary styles, Musical Theater, and Ballroom dance. Sawnee School of the Arts is dedicated to fostering talent, evident in students' successful placements in prestigious summer intensive programs and collegiate dance studies. The studio is home to the recreational performing group Sawnee Sapphires and the non-profit Sawnee Ballet Theatre, celebrated for its annual Nutcracker and Spring Concert performances. We offer specialized training through private lessons (Monday-Thursday, 2:00-4:00 pm, with additional times possible) and upcoming One Day Workshops with Dynamic Edge Acro Tumbling for various age and skill levels. Registration is open for the 2025/2026 season, Summer 2026, and the Inspirations Showcase, providing enriching dance experiences and opportunities for aspiring professionals and those dancing for pleasure. Sawnee School of the Arts provides a nurturing environment where passion for dance is developed alongside a strong technical foundation and encouraged artistic expression.
