Classes

Private and Supplemental Training

Private and Supplemental Training is a key part of a ballet dancer's development. These sessions are an opportunity to work on skills or technique issues unique to the dancer. Offered for ages 10 and up, private lessons provide an opportunity for significant growth outside of the class environment. Students who have been selected to compete are required to take a minimum of one private lesson per week. Additionally APDA offers supplemental training for small groups of six students or less. These are meant for students at the same training level and offer the opportunity to work on skills and technique in a smaller environment. Both private and supplemental training are available to students from APDA only at this time.

Pre-Professional Ballet

APDA's Pre-Professional Program is an intense audition-only program for focused dancers who want to pursue serious training. Designed to parlay dancers into a post-school career or education, this program focuses on ballet technique, performance, pas de deux training, and artistry. Dancers at this level must have proper body facility, flexibility, strength, and musicality as well as have at least one year of pointe work.

Intermediate Ballet

Intermediate Ballet is for the dancer with classical ballet training and the body facility for ballet. This group is broken into a number of smaller levels and typically starts around age 10 to 11. Placement in each level is based on evaluation or audition. Students should expect to spend more than one year in at least one of the levels. This is done to give students the opportunity to fine tune technique and body movement.

Ballet for the Littles

Ballet for the Littles is a ballet program dedicated to the youngest dancers. With young bones and muscles in mind, training at this level is focused on floor barre and musicality. Students are typically between ages five and eight and do not need to audition.

Pre-Professional Ballet

This level is reserved for students who are ready for intense and dedicated ballet training. Students must audition for placement in this level whether they are new or returning students. Our program has a very technical foundation.

Intermediate Ballet

This group of students range in age from eight to thirteen, with exceptions at both ends of the age range. Promotion to this group is by teacher evaluation only. New students must audition for acceptance and placement.

Ballet for the Littles

This is for students between the ages of five and eight who are new to ballet. Our program has a very technical foundation so that students don't progress without having the skills required in the previous level.
