About Norma's Academy of Dance

Norma's Academy of Dance, located in Fairburn, Georgia, is Metro Atlanta’s longest-standing African American founded studio, established in 1972 by the late Norma B. Mitchell. For over five decades, the academy has been a cornerstone of dance education, inspiring students through its 54th season. Under the artistic direction of Djana Bell and Erin Rawlings, the academy provides a comprehensive, technique-based curriculum for dancers of all ages (three and up) in a loving and supportive environment. The esteemed faculty includes Juilliard graduate Jeffery Duffy, Adrienne Abdus-Salaam (Horton, West African), Xavier Wilcher (Hip Hop), and Jonathan Jackson (Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African diasporic movement). Norma's Academy of Dance offers a diverse range of genres, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary, Ballroom, Salsa, and Musical Theater, preparing students for collegiate pursuits, Broadway, or professional careers. Enrichment programs like the SOAR Enrichment and Synergy Young Artists Academy cater to various developmental stages. The SOAR program (ages 3-5) focuses on striving for potential, igniting imagination, ascending through technique, and rising to new heights, incorporating ballet, tap, and jazz. For the 2025-2026 season, specific classes include Ballet/Jazz and Ballet Tap Combos (ages 3-5) and Hip Hop (ages 4-7). The studio has nurtured over a thousand successful artists, highlighting its commitment to artistic excellence and fostering confidence and joy.
