Classes

PBT Senior

This class is designed to support the committed and advanced dancer who has completed PBT programs Sub-Junior and Junior. Students will hone previously developed skills as exercises accelerate in speed, challenge specificity and stability, and increase in duration.

PBT Junior

In this class students will focus on engaging and activating deep muscles groups of the lower limb, upper limb, back, and core through the Junior level of the PBT program. Students will improve alignment, strength and flexibility to support their study of classical ballet or contemporary dance through both individual and partner exercises. The majority of class is taught on the mat and emphasis is placed on anatomically sound principles of movement rooted in healthy practice. Your young dancer is guaranteed to have fun in this one-of-a-kind dance class and community.

PBT Sub-Junior

This is the entry-level class for students of any age and walk of experience. Students will focus on engaging and activating deep muscles groups of the lower limb, upper limb, back, and core. A healthy portion of this class is taught on the mat with sensitivity to joints as students experience a total body ballet warm-up from the inside out. Emphasis is placed on anatomically sound principles of movement rooted in healthy practice and opening channels in the body for increased physiological benefit and fluidity.

Progressing Ballet Technique classes

Progressing Ballet Technique classes are only offered at M - MAC. Lessons are student-centered emphasizing process, remaining sensitive to joints, prior/existing injuries, and safety.

Adult Ballet Technique

Adult classes at M-MAC offer participants a unique experience with practice-specific objectives. Adult Ballet Technique has accommodated students ages 19-80 from California, Idaho, Washington, and Texas. In this class dancers enjoy a barre warm-up, center exercises, and gentle across the floor movement. No experience is necessary.

POINTE STRENGTH

As a dancer demonstrates physical and mental maturity, select dancers may earn their first pair of pointe shoes at this level. An evaluation consisting of both static and dynamic exercises which illuminate a dancer's functional knowledge and abilities in strength, alignment, range of motion, etc. will precede approval for pointe work. Other factors of consideration include the regularity of class attendance which is critical to injury prevention, as well as an evaluation/monitoring of bone growth.

BALLET TECH 2

Ballet Tech 2 is comprised of dedicated dancers committed to enhancing their knowledge of intermediate ballet technique as they grow their personal artistry and expression. Experienced dancers have the opportunity to build upon their foundational knowledge of the basics and advance their skills in complexity and speed. Dancers enjoy a more intensive training regime which includes ballet technique, pre-pointe/pointe, PBT and Contemporary.

BALLET TECH 1

In Ballet Tech 1, dancers are typically between the ages of 10-12 years, and have some ballet experience. Dancers in this group are eager to learn more about the basics of ballet and focus on solidifying the foundational concepts and movements of the art form. In this level dancers are introduced to formal ballet exercises with an emphasis on a functional anatomical understanding of turn-out, positions of the arms, and increased proprioception. Students at this level benefit from the student of classical technique paired with conditioning of Progressing Ballet Technique to improve functional body knowledge and support safe and healthy development in ballet practice.

PRIMARY BALLET

This class is designed to build a strong foundation to support future development as a dancer and expressive individual can emerge. Students at this level increase repetition, learn more complex shapes and patterns, begin positive body mapping (knowing where their body landmarks are such as shoulders, elbows, etc.), and embrace personal uniqueness.

PRE-BALLET

This class is designed to introduce young dancers to basic ballet concepts while reinforcing body knowledge and proper mechanics. Dancers in Pre-Ballet enjoy exploring movement with props, in space, and preparation for a traditional dance class structure and performance.

COMBO CLASS

In the combo class, dancers new to movement experience rhythm, musicality, team-building, levels, shapes, and learn dance concepts through introductory jazz and ballet principles. Students in this class enjoy a simple dance class structure while learning new steps and making friends.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Creative Movement is an entry-level class for the young dancers interested in exploring music, rhythm, movement, and dance play. Dancers will learn basic ballet principles and an environment that stimulates and encourages cognitive development through color, noise, shape, counting, and choice-making.
