Musical Theatre dance is versed in ballet, tap and jazz (and all styles) and uses a blend of all styles in the various big dance numbers and storied versions of movement, supporting plays, songs and movies akin to the Broadway stages and Hollywood Films.

DE sees Lyrical as a blend of ballet and jazz technique expressing connection to the lyric/ story or feeling of the music.

Ballet Tap and Jazz

Younger dancers are encouraged to take Ballet Tap and Jazz as their fundamental styles to gain understanding and skill before adding or branching out into lyrical, hip hop, modern/contemporary and such.

Combo Classes & Level 1

These classes are designed as an introduction to dance class formats and goals, structured around warm-ups, technique, exercises for strength & flexibility, center work, traveling steps, rhythm & counting and choreography. Ballet being the foundation of dance is usually present in combo classes e.g. Ballet & Tap.

Pre-Ballet

These classes are designed as an introduction to dance class formats and goals, structured around warm-ups, technique, exercises for strength & flexibility, center work, traveling steps, rhythm & counting and choreography.

Ballet for Tiny Toes, Mini Movers & Beg.Toes

Introductory positions and terminlogy are slowly introduced while identifying and exploring the various parts of our bodies, types of movement and direction. Additional fun dance elements/games are explored with a variety of child friendly music from Wiggles to Disney and beyond, to incorporate visual and aural learning via specific tasks, exercises, imagination, self expression and the freedom to interpret and be moved by the music/prop/story. Something for every type of learner to experience team play, watching/listening/following, leadership, sharing, caring and confidence, as well as physical co-ordination and strength.

Tap

Tap allows us to explore rhythm and listening skills while continuing motor skill development, balance, wider foot dexterity and body weight placement.

Ballet, Tap and Jazz

Grounded in ballet, tap and jazz the pre-school classes focus on age appropriate movement, music and use of props. For 2-3 yrs the classes are 30 mins long and for 3-4 yrs typically 45 mins long. 4-5 yrs might do 60 mins when ready or if a combo class.

Irish Dance

With BMA classes already offered in Lemont and Westmont, DancEncounter is excited to host the Bailey Murray Academy right here in Geneva beginning Fall 2025 BMA is fully versed in all the soft and hard shoe styles and standards of teaching in the professional world of Irish Dance.
