About Urbana Fine Arts Center

Urbana Fine Arts Center, located in Urbana, Illinois, is a vibrant hub dedicated to fostering artistic growth and expression for students of all ages. With a commitment to comprehensive artistic training, the center offers a diverse range of dance disciplines, including Ballet (from introductory to pre-professional levels, with Vaganova Syllabus instruction), Tap, Hip Hop, Musical Theater Dance, Contemporary, and Jazz. Aspiring dancers can also build strength and flexibility through Barre classes. Our esteemed faculty comprises experienced instructors such as Luciana Rezende (Artistic Director and former professional ballet dancer), Ralitza Iordanova (ABT Certified Teacher), Elana Tiberi (physical therapist specializing in Tap), Jasmine O'Connor (Early Childhood Ballet and Contemporary), Wendy Marck (Musical Theatre and Tap), Taea Guseman (Hip Hop), and Jayla Anderson (Contemporary). Urbana Fine Arts Center provides structured programs, including a Children's Program, a Pre-Professional Ballet Program, and Adult Classes, alongside enriching workshops and master classes led by internationally renowned teachers. Students have opportunities to perform in annual recitals and participate in the UFAC Youth Ensemble, representing the studio at events and competitions. Classes

Adult Contemporary Beginning Ages 13+

For adults and teenagers. Beginners welcomed. This class will look at classical modern forms while focusing on release based technique. This form teaches students how to utilize our connection to gravity to create movement and dance. This class is perfect for students looking to learn dance

Tap Intermediate and Advanced Ages 13 and older

For students with tap dance experience. Placement in this class is determined by the teacher. This class fits students that desires to improve rhythmic and complement dance training. Movements combining elements of ballet and tap, often performed with jazz music.

Floor Barre

For any students ages 7 to adult. This class is designed for ballet dancers and students, as well as gymnasts and ice skaters. Exercises are focused on strength and flexibility. Beginners welcomed.

Adult Ballet Intermediate

For adults and teenagers with at least one year of ballet experience.​ Enrollment in this class is by placement only. Please contact us if you are interested in registering for this class.​

Private Lessons in Ballet Technique and Variations

We offer private lessons in ballet technique for any students age or older. We offer private lessons in variations for students of age 10 and older with more than 2 years of ballet experience. Recommended for professional ballet dancers and ballet students engaged in international ballet competitions. Please, contact us for schedule and price.

Conditioning Pre-Professional Program

At least one year of ballet experience, at a rate of 4 to 5 hours of classes per week required. Conditioning class designed specifically for students enrolled in our Pre-Professional program, to help them with strength, flexibility and injury prevention. An intensive series of complex stretch and strengthening exercises targeting corps and back muscles, foot articulation, turn-out and flexibility to facilitate dancers’ stability, precision, balance, coordination and breathing when performing barre, center and pointe work. With an agile tempo approach adaptable to dancers’ levels of proficiency, the class works on abdominals, inner thighs, calves, pelvic muscles, lower and upper back muscles, obliques, hamstrings, glutes, ankle strength, back and leg flexibility. The class is designed to complement dancers’ training and accelerate progress in technique and execution through an intense, all- around body conditioning.

Contemporary 3 Pre-Professional Ballet Program

Genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. Its style combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. This class is for students that have at least three years of ballet training, at a rate of 4 1/2 hours per week. Enrollment in our Pre-Professional Ballet Program classes required.

Contemporary 2 Pre-Professional Ballet Program

Genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. Its style combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. This class is for students that have at least two years of ballet training, at a rate of 4 1/2 hours per week. Enrollment in our Pre-Professional Ballet Program classes required.

Ballet White

The fifth level of the pre-professional program. For ballet students with 6 or more years of ballet training, including four years at a rate of 4 or more hours per week. Ballet Red completion preferred.

Ballet Red

The fourth level of the pre-professional program. For ballet students with 5 or more years of ballet training, including two years at a rate of 4 or more hours per week. Ballet Orange completion preferred.

Ballet Orange

The third level of the pre-professional program. For ballet students with 4 or more years of ballet training, including two years at a rate of 4 or more hours per week. Ballet green completion preferred.

Ballet Green

The second level​ of the pre-professional program. For ballet students with 3 or more years of ballet training, including one year at a rate of 4 or more hours per week. Ballet yellow completion preferred.

Ballet Yellow

Musical Theatre Dance Ages 9 and older

For any child ages 9 and older that likes to dance and act. This class introduces children to styles of dance commonly found in musicals and is performed to showtunes. This is a mixed age and mixed level class. Beginners welcome.

Musical Theatre Dance Ages 6-8

For any child ages 6-8 that likes to dance and act. This class introduces children to styles of dance commonly found in musicals and is performed to showtunes. Beginners welcomed.

Hip Hop Ages 9-12

For any child ages 9 to 12 that likes to dance. This class introduces children to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. It includes a wide range of movements such as breaking, locking and popping.​ ​Beginners welcomed.

Hip Hop Ages 6 - 8

For any child ages 6 to 8 that likes to dance. This class introduces children to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. It includes a wide range of movements such as breaking, locking and popping.​ ​Beginners welcomed.

Tap Ages 11 and Older Level II

Tap Ages 6 to 10 Level I

For students ages 6 to 10. ​Beginners welcomed. This class focuses on fundamental tap technique and musicality, incorporating a variety of musical genres as well as a cappella variations. It begins exploring how to express music through both the body and tap sounds.

Floor Barre

For any students older than 7. This class is designed for ballet dancers, ballet students, as well as gymnasts and ice skaters. Exercises are focused on strength and flexibility. Beginners welcomed.

Ballet Silver

Ages 11 & Up. In this class students learn and review basic ballet arm and feet positions. Every class starts with floor warm up exercises. Barre exercises are part of every class. Center exercises include jumps and ballet steps across the floor. Ideal for students that have taken classes in the Ballet Dark Blue level and prefer to extend their training in the children's program before joining the pre professional program. This class also fits students ages 11 or older, without previous ballet training or with previous ballet training, wishing to continue to train once per week. Ballet Pink

For any students ages 5 and 6. Students learn basic ballet positions and movements. They develop their gross motor skills through locomotor movements (walking, skipping, running, and jumping) and their fine motor skills by holding and maneuvering props. Rhythm and musicality are also elements of this class. Students learn basic topics of the history of ballet and get familiar with ballet terminology, as well as traditional composers and choreographers. Beginners welcomed.

Ballet Purple

For any students ages 3 and 4. In this class, children are exposed to basic ballet feet and arm positions and practice basic locomotor movements (marching, walking, and running). The activities in this class will also help students to develop musicality and rhythm. Creativity is encouraged. Students must be comfortable taking class without a parent. Parents may watch the class through the classroom's glass windows.

Tap Ages 11 and Older Level II

NO BLACK LEATHER BALLET SLIPPERS. NO BLACK JAZZ SHOES. Hair pulled away from the face (pony tail or ballet bun).

FLOOR BARRE AND CONDITIONING

Regular ballet uniform, or: Comfortable clothes. Plain or patterned tops with no lettering. Socks or ballet slippers. Teacher might ask for bare foot during stability class. Please, no bare foot for Floor Barre classes. No jeans. All students enroled in the Pre-Professional Ballet Program must wear ballet uniform for Floor Barre and Conditining classes.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND MUSICAL THEATRE

Black tank or camisole leotard. No skirt or other attachments. Hair pulled away from the face (pony tail or ballet bun). Ballet slippers. Convertible ballet pink tights. Teacher might require bare feet for parts of the contemporary classes.

HIP-HOP

Comfortable clothes. NO JEANS. Plain or patterned tops with no lettering. Hip-Hop shoes or dance snickers preferred. Regular tennis shoes with clean soles are accepted. NO STREET SHOES ALLOWED ON DANCE FLOOR. NO BLACK LEATHER JAZZ SHOES ALLOWED ON DANCE FLOOR. Hair must be fastened back and secure.

TAP

Leotard and tights accepted. Comfortable tops accepted – no coats, outdoor jackets, or hoodies. Shorts, leggings, tight-fitting pants accepted – no bulky sweatpants. NO JEANS. Tap shoes: oxford style preferred – no split-sole, please. Plain or patterned tops with no lettering. Hair must be fastened back and secure.

BALLET

Hair: Secured in a ballet bun, away from the face. Black short sleeve, tank or camisole leotard (pink or black for 3 to 6 years old). No skirt or other attachments. Ballet Pink tights (footed or convertible). Ballet Pink ballet slippers (canvas split sole required). Ballet slippers: A ½”elastic must be sown as shown in the images below (one way or the other): Pointe shoes, according to teacher's guidance and requirement. Any student beginning pointe work must have a introductory class with the ballet teacher. Introductory classes are held at the beginning of each semester or during a 30 minutes private lesson.

ADULTS

FLOOR BARRE AND CONDITIONING

Floor Barre and Conditioning classes can be attended in regular ballet uniform or comfortable clothes with plain or patterned tops (no lettering). Socks or ballet slippers are required, and the teacher might ask for bare feet during stability classes, but please no bare feet for Floor Barre classes. No jeans are allowed. All students in the Pre-Professional Ballet Program must wear the ballet uniform.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND MUSICAL THEATRE

Contemporary Dance and Musical Theatre classes require a black tank or camisole leotard, with no skirt or other attachments. Hair must be pulled away from the face (ponytail or ballet bun). Ballet slippers and convertible ballet pink tights are required. The teacher might require bare feet for parts of the contemporary classes.

BALLET

Ballet attire requires hair secured in a ballet bun, away from the face. Option 1 includes a black short sleeve, tank or camisole leotard (pink or black for 3 to 6 years old), ballet pink tights (footed or convertible), and ballet pink ballet slippers (canvas split sole required) with a ½” elastic sown. Pointe shoes require teacher guidance and an introductory class. Option 2 includes a white t-shirt or body wrapper dance t-shirt, black shorts or black tights, white socks, and black or white canvas ballet slippers (canvas split sole required).
