Classes

Kinderdance

Young children have a natural urge to move actively. Kinderdance offers a creative and imaginative approach to direct this energy and increase natural movement. Student explore the discipline of dance in a light and fun environment while developing rhythm and awareness of differences in music. Simple in structure, Kinderdance introduces good posture, strengthens muscles, and builds coordination. With emphasis on animation the student masters variations on movement: walking, running, jumping, bending, rising, turning, swaying, stretching, and hopping.

Tap

An American dance form that combines external rhythm with the rhythm expressed from the body. Students develop footwork, agility, musicality, and stylized movements of basic tap.

Modern

A contemporary approach to dance training involving the exploration of experimentation with spatial, rhythmic, and conceptual designs. In innovative ways modern involved a greater use of torso and pelvis. Legs are aligned parallel as well as turned out. Feet can be pointed or flexed. Students develop aesthetic qualities found in ballet such as lightness and upward effortlessness but also transfer of weight and strength. Modern develops all fine muscle groups to aid in improving all techniques of dance.

Jazz

An American born and refined style, which ranges from Astaire and Rogers to more contemporary forms of Broadway dance. Students develop complex isolations while polishing techniques of performance dance. Proper body placement, coordination, flexibility, and lyricism are gained.

A traditional structure training the body for classical ballet. Students develop posture, coordination, flexibility, and a foundation for vocabulary and classical movement. Classes include beginning ballet, classical ballet, and enriched ballet.

Company

A more advanced theory and procedure of dance for the accomplished student/dancer. Technical proficiency is highly stressed. Dance Company emphasizes the professional qualities of performing the methodical as well as theatrical aspects of the art of dance. Discipline, dedication, and personal attitude of practice and performance is gained. Attendance is paramount! Company members work in an atmosphere conducive to that of a professional dance troupe. Dancers must audition for Company and must be chosen by a panel of judges. During the audition the judging of the performance of the student will be based on dancer’s physical appearance (dress code, hair), ability to grasp and execute combinations, retention value, and attitude as a performer. In order to qualify for Company dancers must by 12 by the time of audition. In order to qualify for Junior Company dancers must be 8 by the time of audition. Also, dancers must be enrolled in ballet and one other discipline. Company dancers are required to attend rehearsals/classes every Saturday.
