Classes

Musical Theater

Students are chosen for this class by the teaching staff. Musical theater runs from January through May only. The choreography from this class will either open or close Act 2 of the June recital.

January through May
Hip Hop

We offer 3 levels of hip hop. The student must be 13 years old to register for this class, and the student must also enroll in either a Ballet or Jazz technique class. Students move into upper level classes solely upon the teachers' discretion regardless of their age, depending on their ability level.

Jazz

Students must be 10 years of age to participate in jazz. We offer Jazz classes from Beginning to Advanced levels.

Tap

Requirements for our tap classes are completion of Beginning Ballet and entering into Ballet 2 OR the student is in 2nd grade in school. Levels offered in our tap classes are Beginning through Advanced. While we strongly encourage students to take a ballet class along with the tap class, it is not a requirement.

Pointe

Students wishing to enroll in pointe class must be 10 years of age and enrolled in a ballet class. We offer four levels of pointe: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced Intermediate, and Advanced. Beginning Pointe is a 2-year class.

Ballet

We offer Beginning through Advanced level training in Ballet. Beginning Ballet is typically offered for students age 6, 7, or 8 depending on their experience or when they are in First Grade in school. From there, students move up to Ballet 2, 3, 4 and so on each year. If a student misses multiple class or if the teacher feels the student hasn't progressed throughout the year, they may be required to repeat the year.

Lyrical

Students must audition to participate in Lyrical. They will attend class for 3 weeks, and then audition in front of a Judges Panel of BAoP staff and alumni dancers on August 27th, 2023. Typically, the class sizes are between 6 and 10 dancers. Lyrical 1 dancers are age 12 to 14. Lyrical 2 dancers are age 15 to 18.

Kinderdance

Kinderdance is a pre-ballet program for 4, 5, and 6 year olds with a focus on stretching, motor skills, fun dances, and rhythm. The year concludes with learning choreography to be performed in the annual June recital. The year consists of three 10-week sessions, and the student must participate in all three sessions to be eligible for the recital. Kinderdance students must be 4 years old by September 1st to participate.
