Deborah's School of Dance, a cornerstone of dance education in Cherokee, Iowa, has been fostering a passion for movement and artistic growth for over 45 years, originally founded in 1976. With a second location in Storm Lake, IA, the studio offers a comprehensive dance curriculum for students of all ages, starting from three years old. Under the guidance of owner and instructor Deborah Dunn, students receive expert training in Ballet, Lyrical, and Pointe. Deborah's sister, Lisa Shima, leads engaging Tap and Jazz classes, including specialized adult sessions, leveraging her extensive competitive background. The curriculum emphasizes a well-rounded education, with foundational classes including ballet, tap, and jazz, progressing to lyrical for older students. Younger dancers benefit from 'Pre Ballet' and combination classes like 'Ballet/Tap' and 'Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo' designed for kindergarten through eighth graders. Older students can explore pointe, typically beginning in ninth or tenth grade. The dance season runs from September to early May, culminating in a highly anticipated annual recital.
