The Academy of Ballet, located in Dubuque, Iowa, is a premier institution dedicated to exceptional classical ballet education. As the official school for the Dubuque City Youth Ballet (DCYB), a renowned non-profit organization established in 1969, the Academy provides comprehensive training for dancers aged 6 through adult, from beginner to advanced levels. Students benefit from a rigorous curriculum focused on classical ballet techniques, with opportunities for pointe shoe fittings and specialized rehearsals for renowned productions. Performance is a cornerstone of the Academy's program. Students regularly rehearse and perform in full-length classical ballets such as 'The Nutcracker,' 'Sleeping Beauty,' 'Coppelia,' and 'Giselle' at the historic Grand Opera House. Advanced dancers, particularly high school-aged students, are eligible to join the Heartland Ballet, a division of the DCYB that performs annually and serves as a touring group. Dancers become eligible for the DCYB in their fourth year of training. The Academy also welcomes community adults for participation in appropriate roles. Throughout the academic year, the Academy offers a variety of performance opportunities and culminates in an annual 'All-Class Review' for students to showcase their progress, alongside an 'Open House' for parents to observe classes. Specialized summer sessions are available in three-week blocks to ensure continuous development.
