Intermediate and Advanced Ballet

Classical Ballet is truly the foundation for all forms of Dance. It is where students learn true technique, usage of the feet, and how to develop strength, balance, and quality of movement. We focus on flexibility as well as the execution of leaps and turns. We teach students how to express and speak a story through dance movements (no talking) and gestures.

Intermediate and Advanced Ballet

Hip-Hop Dance

Students learn how to follow choreography, dance within a group, and put together show pieces while utilizing the levels, lines, and textures that hip-hop dance requires. These classes are usually fast paced and require dancers to be both mentally and physically strong. In the younger hip-hop levels, freestyle dance is encouraged towards the end of class, which helps these dancers figure out their rhythm and how to interpret the music. As the dancers get older, they will incorporate some of this personal flare into their combos as they perform in smaller groups for their peers.

Contemporary

This class takes the technical training that dancers receive in their ballet class and uses it to create new movements by fusing it with other styles of dance. Classes begin with a stretch and strengthening warm up. Progressions follow which will work the dancers’ leaps, turns, transitions, and overall technique. Improvisational development is a large part of this program. Dancers will be challenged to take different improvisational elements and create their own movement throughout the class. Often times this includes partner work and contact exercises. Contemporary dance is a great way to explore movement in relation to emotion and intention. Dancers are challenged to take an intention (ex. fear, love, anger) and transmit it through movement. Many dancers find they are able to embrace their classical training but also release some of the structure to allow them greater freedom of expression. We hope to inspire students to break personal boundaries in this class and explore new movement.

Competition Teams

The Dance Competition Team program was created for dancers who have the drive to compete and want to further their dance skills and technique. Competition members are still able to maintain a flexible schedule to participate in other extra-curricular activities. Our studio has had great success winning numerous high awards at both the recreational and elite levels, and many times score in the top 5 overall. Many competition students also choose to compete with solos, duets and trios and our staff provides individualized instruction and training at an hourly rate. Our competition dance teams are chosen by audition. Teams meet during a summer session to learn choreography from a elite choreographer who does specialized choreography throughout the United States, as well as the regular Trimester Schedule. Dancers perform in our recital and compete with 1-2 routines (depending on the age of the team) at three local and regional competitions.

Combination Dance

Includes ballet instruction, the basic foundation of all dance forms — teaching proper body alignment, carriage, grace and poise. Barre exercises develop flexibility and strength, while center work allows students to practice classic dance principles. Tap instruction — which combines dance with rhythmic foot patterns. Jazz instruction (age 8-Adult), an American dance form which evolves and changes with the latest popular styles —or— tumbling (age 6-7), the floor section of gymnastics. Floor mats are used to teach students safe techniques for rolls, handstands, walk-overs, handsprings and other gymnastic tricks.

Beginner Dance

Beginner Dance is an introduction to exploratory and creative movement and musical skills through basic ballet, tap and tumbling. Fun props such as tambourines, lummi sticks and bean bags are used to develop coordination and explore the wonders of movement. Class structure and exercises are designed specifically for the behavorial development and the attention span of 4 & 5 year olds.

Toddler Dance

Toddler Dance is an introduction to basic rhythm, coordination and musical skills, such as left/right handed drills, skipping and vocalizing through song and games. Fun is emphasized with special props and activities. Class includes instruction in ballet, tap and tumbling.
