About NEXUS Pointe

NEXUS Pointe, located in Morehead, Kentucky, is a premier youth dance studio dedicated to empowering young individuals through comprehensive dance education. Recognized with the 2023 ABC’s WTVQ 36Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Dance Studio in Central/Eastern Kentucky, NEXUS Pointe fosters an environment where students discover their value, identity, and purpose through movement, from early childhood through high school. Co-Owners and Directors Hallie Hodson (also Lead Teacher and Head Coach for the Diamond Dancers) and Heather Hodson (administrative operations) guide students with a mission to cultivate strength and resilience. NEXUS Pointe offers a wide array of genuine dance styles, including Ballet, Tap, Acrobatics, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary. Classes are structured for various skill levels, focusing on proficiency rather than solely age, with multi-level programs available in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, and Hip Hop. For dedicated dancers, the NEXUS Pointe Competition Dance Teams provide rigorous training from Kindergarten through 12th grade via audition. The esteemed Ballet Conservatory offers advanced training for those aspiring to dance en pointe, pursue dance beyond high school, or refine their ballet artistry. Conservatory students receive intensive instruction in ballet, pre-pointe/pointe work, stretch & strength, and choreography, with performance opportunities in the Christmas show and the end-of-year ballet showcase. Entry into the Conservatory requires an audition and a contract commitment.

NEXUS Pointe Competition Dance Teams (Requires Audition; Grades Kindergarten-12th)

Want to take your dance skills beyond classes? Want to be a part of a team that competes in all genres of dance? Want to train for auditions for a college dance team? Our competition team takes you to the next level of dance through competition and performing locally and also at nationals in places like Orlando Florida and Dallas Texas. We have several teams aging from 5 to 17 years. In order to be on the team you must first pass the audition process, then sign a commitment contract to the minimum required classes as well as the team practices. Please contact nexuspointe@yahoo.com for more information or interest in auditioning for the Nexus Pointe Competition Team.

Ballet Conservatory (Requires Audition, Grades 6-12)
$120.00

Our ballet conservatory is designed to raise the level of instruction higher. This is for dancers who are looking to do ballet for more than the weekly recreational class. Dancers with the goal of being in pointe shoes, for dancing beyond high school, or dancers who just simply love ballet and want to take it to the next level are encouraged to join. Conservatory dancers are required to take ballet classes two times a week, plus the pre-pointe/pointe class and the conservatory choreography class. They will perform in the Nexus Pointe Christmas show as well as take the lead/principal roles in the end of the year ballet Nexus Showcase, and also may perform at local venues and special performances. Auditions are required as well as a contract commitment. Please contact info@nexusky.com for more information or interest in auditioning for the Nexus Pointe Ballet Conservatory.

Contemporary (Competition Team Only)

An exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It is not bound by set standards and it seeks to express a personalized vision, or story/message. The dancer can do this individually or with a partner, or group, to express the message they want to convey. Its graceful and fluid, or it can be flexed and choppy. It can be bold and exciting, or soft and filed with angst and sorrow.

Hip Hop (Competition Team Only)

A structured form of street dance often found in music videos. Lots of exciting tricks and movements involving agility, quickness, strength, precision and endurance, and it is usually done to popular music from today and in the past.

Jazz (Competition Team Only)

A fun and exciting genre of dance that involves rhythm, passion and life! Using turns, leaps, tricks, body isolations, expression and dramatics – this form of dance is fun and very entertaining.

Tap Levels 1&2 (3rd Grade and Up)

Developing and strengthening tap technique and terminology highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. Using both “classical tap” and “street tap”, we focus on rhythms and intricate footwork, creating a percussion instrument with the dancer’s feet.

Pre-Pointe/Pointe (6th Grade and Up)

Utilizing pointe shoes in ballet is an exciting accomplishment for dancers! However, we take the severe toll it takes on the body and the safety precautions for our students very seriously. In order to achieve “pointe status”/take our pointe classes, the dancer must successfully accomplish certain levels/tasks first, as well as they must meet and maintain certain requirements. These are, but are not limited to, a minimum of 2 ballet classes per week in addition to the pre-pointe/pointe class and passing the “pointe test” given by our ballet director.

Ballet Levels 1-4 (3rd Grade and Up)

This classical dance form can be mastered by itself or as a technical base or supplement for other dance genres. Focusing on total body alignment, strength, flexibility, grace, posture and awareness with emphasis on proper use of feet, legs and execution of turnout. Upper torso, carriage and arms are also stressed. Barre work, center work and across the floor combinations are taught in each class.

NEXUS Combo: Ballet and Tap Combination Class (Kindergarten - 2nd Grade)

Basic beginner ballet and tap, plus age appropriate fundamentals as well as expressing movement through music.
