Nurture your passion for dance at the Belfast Academy of Dance & Performing Arts Center, nestled in the heart of Belfast, Maine. Founded by Miss Jess, who brings six years of prior studio ownership experience, this esteemed academy is dedicated to exceptional dance education for all ages. Our comprehensive range of disciplines fosters a love for movement from the youngest movers to seasoned dancers. Our younger students begin their journey with Pearl Pre-K classes (ages 3-5), followed by the Sapphire program (ages 5-7) combining foundational Ballet and Tap. Ruby classes (ages 7-8) deepen technique in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. Energetic Hip Hop enthusiasts aged 5-8 will thrive in Little Hip Hop I & II. For advanced training, students are placed in Opal, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels by teacher recommendation. We emphasize a strong technical foundation across various styles. Our Ballet classes focus on proper placement and vocabulary, while Tap explores rhythm and music theory. Jazz incorporates classic, Broadway, contemporary, and commercial styles. Hip Hop covers popping, locking, and breakdancing, and Contemporary encourages personal expression through fluid movement. Pointe classes are available for experienced ballet students aged 10+ with instructor permission. Instructors like Miss Riri, Miss Jess's daughter, bring passion and expertise to our classes, including guidance in Opal ballet. The academy launched its competition team in 2019, providing opportunities to elevate skills. Miss Jess and Miss Riri actively participate in the broader dance world, attending teacher conferences to stay at the forefront of dance education. We pride ourselves on creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, making us a vibrant hub for dance in Belfast.

Exposing students to tap improvisation is an important component of becoming a well-rounded percussive dancer. Faculty also make time to share the history of this American art form by sharing dances of legendary tap artists and teaching students the stories of the “old dances” that are part of the rich history of the art of tap dancing.
