ACRO

Students will work on developing balance and motor skills, while focusing on strength and flexibility. Students will start with skills like somersaults and cartwheels, and over the years learn more advanced tumbling like handsprings and tucks. Just like ballet, each exercise is designed to learn correct body alignment, proper technique, all while tumbling. At this time Acro is only for dancers 8 years or older.

Hip Hop

Hip hop dance is a street dance style that originated in the United States in the early 1970s. It is characterized by its use of improvisation, syncopation, and body isolations. Hip hop dance is often performed to hip hop music, but it can also be danced to other genres of music, such as R&B and pop. There are many different styles of hip hop dance, each with its own unique set of movements and techniques. Some of the most popular styles include popping, locking, and breaking. Popping is a style of dance that uses quick, sharp movements to create a popping sound. Locking is a style of dance that uses isolations of the body to create intricate patterns. Breaking is a style of dance that is characterized by its use of acrobatics and floorw ork.

Contemporary

Combining ballet, jazz, and modern dance, contempor ary dance is one of the newest forms of dance. Contemporary dance emphasizes on emotional connection to mind/body along with abstract movement. Class begins with a warm-up, moves to across the floor combinations and ends with a choreographed routine, all designed for students to learn correct body alignment, emotion, isolations and proper technique.

PRE JAZZ/JAZZ

Over time, jazz dancing has evolved from dancing to the style of jazz music in New Orleans, to a combination of classical ballet mixed with steps from American Pop culture. Jazz is typically high energy and designed for entertainment. Class begins with a warm-up, moves to across the floor combinations, and ends with a choreographed routine. Each exercise and combination are designed to instill correct body alignment, isolations and proper technique.

PRE TAP/TAP

A form of dance where the shoe has a metal 'tap' on both the toe and heel. The tap shoe strikes the floor creating rhythm and sound. The floor combinations are exercises designed to help students learn proper tap technique for clean and crisp tap sounds.

This is an advanced Ballet class with special shoes that allow dancers to dance on the tops of their toes. To be in this class dancers will audition throughout the year. Dancers must be taking at least two other ballet classes to qualify for pointe class. Every ballet class begins at the barre and then moves to the center floor. The goal of each exercise is to learn correct body alignment and proper technique.

BALLET

Ballet is a highly technical form of dance with vocabulary based on French terminology that takes years to master. It is the foundation for all other forms of dance. Every ballet class begins at the barre and then moves to the center floor. The goal of each exercise is to learn correct body alignment and proper technique. Please note: Ballet is a required class before taking any other style of dance. Must be 5 years old by September 1st.
