About Northern Lights Irish Dance and Ballet Academy

Northern Lights Irish Dance and Ballet Academy, located in Cadillac, Michigan, offers a diverse range of dance disciplines for students of all ages. As the sole traditional Irish Dance Academy in northern Michigan, we are dedicated to the rich traditions of both Irish dance and classical ballet. Our Irish dance program provides an immersive experience, delving into intricate steps, precise technique, and vibrant culture, incorporating the teaching of Gaelic language and ceilis. The academy also nurtures performance with the Northern Lights Irish Dancers (NLID), our esteemed Irish Dance Company, which has shared the joy of Irish Dance across Northern Michigan for over 16 years. Participation in Feis, Irish Dance competitions, is encouraged. Complementing our renowned Irish dance program, we offer a strong foundation in Ballet, ensuring a well-rounded dance education. Our offerings also include a vibrant Contemporary program, designed to enhance performance ability and versatility by blending elements from modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet. Fusion classes combine contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop for a fun, non-traditional dance experience. The Progressing Contemporary Technique (PCT) program, developed by Adam Blanch, is integrated into Contemporary 2 and above, focusing on functional exercises to improve freedom of movement. For the upcoming 25/26 school year, we are excited to introduce drop-in Adult Beginner Ballet & Contemporary classes (ages 16+). Registration for the 2025/26 season opens July 26, 2025. We aim to provide a nurturing environment for dancers to develop their skills and passion.

Progressing Contemporary Technique – PCT

Progressing Contemporary Technique is an innovative program created by Adam Blanch in conjunction with Progressing Ballet Technique, devised as a series of functional exercises to help you explore and develop freedom of movement. To bring awareness to the importance of finding articulation through your body and allowing that discovery to give you that enhanced sense of mobility in contemporary dance. PCT focuses on activating muscles groups through a process of utilising resistance and strength training. Our aim is to help you achieve a sense of moving with resistance, but never a tension in the body.

Fusion is a combination of contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and more. This fun and energetic class is great for anyone who wants to dance in a non traditional way.

Contemporary

Contemporary is perfect for the student who just loves to dance, and for Irish and ballet students looking to supplement their learning. Contemporary is required for all NLID and CCAC students to enhance their performance ability and versatility. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz , lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. From technique and choreography, to improvisation, this form of dance is always fun!
