Classes

Contemporary

A dance genre which relies heavily on ballet, jazz and modern techniques. Contemporary requires total body awareness, stretch, strength, core strength and use of dynamics. Must be enrolled in Intermediate Ballet, Cecchetti and Intermediate Jazz.

Lyrical

A technical fusion of ballet and jazz with a storytelling element. Students will learn to perform technical movements with an emotional connection to age appropriate song lyrics. Level i students are eligible for lyrical. Lyrical students must be enrolled in Ballet I and Jazz I, Ballet II and Jazz II, Ballet III and Jazz III.

Hip Hop

Funky, Fly and Fresh are the components of The Zone Hip-Hop classes! The high energy and dynamic classes will allow students to gain stronger rhythm and coordination skills, pick-up and retain original choreography and become comfortable with expressing themselves freely through freestyle. All music is performed in class and on stage to age appropriate music. Hip-Hop classes are based on age.

Jazz

Jazz is a technical form that was inspired and created after modern. involves sharp, dynamic movements, use of body control, stretch and strength. Students will learn/refine jazz basics, terminology, gain stretch and strength, pirouettes, leaps, jumps, coordination, isolation and weight change. The Zone jazz curriculum is designed to build on the previous jazz level.

Modern

An informal dance genre than of ballet. Modern focuses on the various qualities of movement, while building strength and stretch. Students will learn the different techniques of Martha Graham, Jose Limon and Lester Horton. Our Modern I class is open to Level II students. Modern II is open to Level III students.

Tap

Percussive dance genre that includes tap basics, focusing on tonality, musicality , weight change and coordination. Consists of barre work, across the floor and center floor exercises. Students will learn to develop stronger auditory skills to retain tap steps and combinations. The Zone tap curriculum is designed to build on the previous tap level.

Pointe

Apart of the classical ballet family, introduced in 1820, the pointe technique involves pointe work, where the dancer supports all of their body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. The beautiful and rigorous technique is geared for the serious minded student, who has developed a strong core, proper turn out, proper releve and strong soft shoe ballet technique. Pointe is by recommendation only for Ballet III and higher classes. Must be enrolled in a Cecchetti ballet class.

Created by Italian ballet master Enrico Cecchetti. “Cecchetti training is a rigorous method which pays careful attention to the laws of anatomy. A 45 minute combination class of ballet and tap devoted to developing a strong dance foundation. The class introduces and enhances basic ballet technique, allows for students to learn ballet terminology, instills discipline and confidence to perform onstage without teacher instruction. The tap portion of the class consists of basic tap technique at the barre and center floor. It is a percussive dance genre that allows for dancers to learn and understand musicality; rhythm and timing.
