Audition for Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre

Audition for Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre for various age groups. Pointe work will be included for ladies aged 12 and up. Dancers aged 12 and not en pointe should attend the 10-12 age audition. Dancers aged 12 and en pointe should attend the final audition only.

Lyrical/Contemporary

Dancers are encouraged to be versatile in their expressions, being able to portray a wide array of movement styles and emotion. Focusing on spatial/body awareness, floor work, leaps, turns, and proper body alignment.

Stretch

A class specifically for stretching and increasing flexibility.

Irish

Irish Dance is a dynamic and energetic form of dance known for its precise footwork, rhythmic patterns, and lively music. Blending tradition with athleticism, Irish dance builds strength, coordination, and discipline all while celebrating a rich cultural heritage.

Musical Theater

Learn repertoire from Musicals as well as original choreography made to prepare dancers for the stage.

Ballroom

Learn dances such as the Waltz, Cha-cha, Rumba, Tango, Foxtrot and more.

Designed to specifically target the needs of the male ballet dancer.

Conditioning for Dancers

Learn specific exercises and stretches to compliment dance training. Focusing on a healthy mindset to grow the dancers strength, flexibility and technique.

Variations

Learn repertoire from Classical Ballets such as Swan Lake , The Sleeping Beauty , Don Quixote and more. Pointe technique is a pre-requisite.

Partnering

Learn the art of Pas de deux (dance for two), skills including: pirouettes , lifts, balances, and selected repertoire. Pointe technique is a pre-requisite for female students.

Young Adult Intermediate/Advanced Modern

Continuing on the foundation of Children’s Modern, class includes working on suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.

Dancers will be challenged with diverse isolations, turning combinations, and jump sequences. Combinations are challenging to increase coordination and memory skills.

Advanced Tap

Advanced tap classes help students improve their tap technique and learn more advanced concepts. Students must be comfortable with tap technique and vocabulary. In this class, students may learn more complex combinations, quicker movements, and how to develop strength and clarity of sound. They also learn classic and modern tap skills through improvisation, warm ups, and progressions.

Dancers are taught to add sounds to the basic tap steps. Musicality is stressed while teaching the student to count their sounds between the beats to create more complex rhythms. (Class placement determined by skill level).

For dancers that have been en pointe previously and are continuing to excel. More challenging pointe work while continuing to strengthen and refine.
