Private Lessons

Private lesson fees are specific to each individual teacher. This is a general fee, however certain teachers may charge higher fees depending on the Private lesson required. For example a private lesson where a routine or choreography is being learned may be charged more than a Private lesson to make up a class or work on specific skills. Fees are to be paid to the Private Individual teacher upon each lesson. Private teacher and students may work out payment options between themselves.

Praise Dance

Praise Dance – also known as Liturgical Dance is a form of dance that brings praise and worship to God. praise dance can be very simple or involve more complexe movements and choreography. It can also incorporate props like flags or banners to wave. In this class we will use basic dance and movement skills, lines and formations, lyrical interpretaion, and improvisation techniques. This class is open to ages 12 and up and all skill levels. There will also be prayer and biblical scripture read to go along with the song or lesson.

Tap Dance

Tap Dance incorporates tap shoes and teaches timing and rhythm and beats with the feet. This class teaches basic tap dance techniques often found in musical theatre dance. this class can be very noisy but a lot of fun! great for ages 6 and up.

Variations Ballet

Variations Ballet class is a ballet class that teaches classical ballet variations (dances) from popular classical ballets such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Don Q and more. Dancers must be enrolled in ballet and be at least 9 years old to take this class. Pointe dancers may be required to wear pointe shoes in this class.

Musical Theatre Jazz

Musical Theatre Jazz dance class is a Jazz-based dance style that is used in , you guessed it, Musical Theatre. It is seen in Broadway musical productions, Show choir, commercials, community Theatre and much more. MTJ also emphasizes skills in performance, audience connection, character development, emotion, and expression. *note* this is only a dance class not a vocal class or Theatre class but will help in a performers theatre pursuits. great for ages 7 and up

Dance Flexibility and Techniques and Combos

Dance Flexibility and Techniques and Combos is a class that focusses on specific dance techniques such as leaps , turns, or tricks. Each class is different and will focus on One style of turns or one style of leap at each class. This class will also break down the mechanics of specific dance steps ; what muscles to use, what steps connect to achieve another step, how to achieve better turns, how to gain more height to leap, and more. This class will also have specific classes that focus on Flexibility and strength. Ideal for dancers who already take weekly technique classes in ballet, Jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip-hop. This class is a great addition to your weekly class schedule to help build on the training you are receiving throughout the week. *This is a specialty pop up class and will not be held every week. a schedule will be supplied for those dancers enrolled in the class. (suggested ages 7 and up)

Intermediate – Advanced Ballet Techniques

Intermediate – Advanced Ballet Techniques is for dancers who have had two or more years of ballet training, dancers who take more than one dance class per week at KSD, and/or dancers who present proficient ballet technique in the lower ballet levels. Int /Adv Ballet will train dancers in deeper ballet techniques, faster and more complicated ballet combinations and challenging steps to further progress the ballet trainings. placement in these ballet levels will be based on dancers individual ballet techniques. Advancement will be based on Teacher evaluation.

Beginning Ballet Techniques

Beginning Ballet Techniques is for dancers with little to no previous ballet training. This class will introduce dancers to the ballet barre warm up and teach the basic ballet skills like turns, jumps, leaps, and ballet positions. This class is suggested for ages 7-12 with little to NO previous ballet training.

Tiny Toes Ballet

Tiny Toes Ballet is for our youngest dancers. These classes introduce young dancers to the world of dance using basic ballet techniques, fun stories, themes, props, and songs. Tiny Toes Ballet is for ages 2.5-6 . Same for Jr. hip hop.

Barre/Yoga Fitness

Barre/Yoga Fitness is a class for Adult , Teens, and upper level dancers who want to add more to their weekly workout routine. The first half of class focuses on strength, alignment, muscle control and cardio using basic ballet techniques at the ballet barre. Class then transitions into a yoga format in the second portion of class.

Adult Ballet

Adult Ballet is a class for Teens or adults who want a slower paced beginner ballet class. In this class the instructor will really take time with new steps and offer several options for all dancers with varying degrees of skill. This is a fun, non judgmental , non competitive ,class for dancers who want to fulfil their childhood dream of being a ballerina, OR want an alternative fitness routine as dance is a great workout for all muscles!

Basic Tumbling Dance and Floor Skills

Basic Tumbling Dance and Floor Skills will introduce dancers to floor tricks. Skills worked will include somersaults and its variations, cartwheels, round offs, backbends, walkovers, fish flops, headstands, handstands, shoulder stands, headsprings, kip ups, and more. This class is multi level and multi skill. each student will progress at different speeds and obtain different skills from each other. *this is NOT a gymnastics class*. This is for basic tumbling skills used on the dance floor.

Pointe

Pointe is the next step in ballet training. pointe dancers must take ballet technique IN ADDITION TO pointe classes. pre-pointe eligibility begins at age 11. dancers must be taking ballet technique classes for one year minimum before being eligible for pointe. Dancers must pass the pointe test by ballet teachers to determine proper strength and alignment is in place before being approved for Pointe shoe training.

Hip-hop

Hip-hop is street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping.

Pointe

Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet within pointe shoes. Pointe Level is achieved after years of ballet in flat shoes. A dancer needs great strength, proper posture, turnout and alignment to be eligible for Pointe shoes. This level must be approved by the ballet teachers and is a great, but serious, achievement.

Tiny Toes Ballet

Tiny Toes Ballet is usually for ages 2.5-6. Tiny Toes Ballet is a joyful way for children to explore movement and the basic elements of dance through music, develop physical skills, channel energy, stimulate imagination and promote creativity.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a melting of Ballet and Jazz into one beautiful expression of dance and emotion. Often Lyrical tells a story or interprets the lyrics of a song through dance.

Jazz

Jazz dance is fast and fun. It uses upbeat music and leaps, kicks and turns to interpret traditional and not-so-traditional movements. Incorporates classical forms such as ballet. Theatrical Jazz is what you would see in theatrical musicals and Broadway musicals.

Dance team / Competition Team

KSD will now offer the opportunity for our dancers to be a part of a competitive dance team and a recreational dance team. Practices will be held on Saturdays at a scheduled time between 10am and 2pm. Team dancers are required to take basic technique classes such as Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical or modern to be eligible for these teams. competition teams will compete in local dance competitions held in the KCMO area with the possibility of expanding to national comps. recreational teams may have opportunities to preform for local groups, church groups, organizations, and social media. an extra fee will be applied to dance team members, in addition to monthly tuition, to cover the costs of staff, facility, and other fees such as travel, costumes, props etc.
