Classes

NAC classes

NAC stands for the National Acrobat Competition. NAC comprises a local tumbling competition in which students from MelRoe’s and other area dance and tumbling studios attend. During class, students work on an tumbling routine that is comparable to their level in tumbling. There are 10 levels in NAC – beginners through advanced tumbling. NAC routines consist of approximately 15 skills. Students may also compete in one of 5 levels on the Mini Trampoline . MelRoe’s NAC classes focus on students working to perfect the skills in their routine and the Mini Tramp. Students compete this routine against students from different dance and tumbling studios in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Each student is then awarded a place for their performance. The competitions are usually between 1 to 3 hours in length.

STAR Tumblers

This group of selected tumblers will compete 3 Times a year. There is a meet in January and February and a championship meet in March. These students will compete against many different tumbling teams from around the Missouri area. They start practicing for the season in October and practice through March. There are Competition fees and a Studio jacket that they are responsible to purchase. If you are interested in being apart of the STAR Tumbling team please contact the studio.

TNT TUMBLING GROUP

Our TNT Tumblers are an elite tumbling group, auditioned on a yearly basis (auditions are in August) In addition to the Dynamite Company, this group also represents our school at competitions and perform at various events throughout the year.

Dancers are able to audition at our annual company auditions held in August. We also offer recreational and introductory hip hop classes.

Adult Tap

We know that taking a dance class as an adult can be scary... stressful... overwhelming... if it's been a while since you've danced or you've never danced. We also know that those feelings stop some people who'd really love to enroll in a dance class from taking the leap. Adult tap is a great class to start with. Turns, Leaps, & Conditinong (TLC)

This class is strictly technique and emphasizes turns, leaps, tricks, and strengthening exercises. Partner work is executed in this class. This is a non performance class. We do a complete warm up, center work, and progressions. This is a great class to work on fine tuning your jazz technique.

Hip Hop

Come and learn the hottest in hip hop and street dance trends. Hip hop classes wiil start with a warm up, progressions, combination in the center, and always ends with improving. Emphasis is on developing individual style.

Combo (TAP + JAZZ)

Combo is fusion between tap and jazz. Jazz class Tap class will emphasizes rhythm and sound. Students will start with the basics including terminology, basic tap technique, and building to advanced combination.

Ballet Conditioning

Ballet conditioning is a new class we are offering this year. This class will be a combination of Floor Barre, Pilates, Yoga, Strength Training, Injury Prevention, and PBT. This class will help with flexibility, posture, building muscles and agility, balance, core strength, and good for the mind and soul. This class must be approved by the staff in order to participate.

Lyrical

Lyrical is offered to students who have at least 3 years of ballet training. This class focuses on teaching dancers about creative expression. Lyrical class is a slower tempo class incorporating ballet and modern and emphasizing emotional expression in music as well as fluidity and floor work. Students must a have a strong background in jazz and ballet.

Modern

Modern is offered to students who have at least 3 years of ballet training. This class focuses on the mind, body and spirit through movement. This class incorporates structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength. Modern is constantly developing.Student placement is at the discretion of the instructor.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all forms of dance. The mechanics of ballet technique and its vocabulary are taught at the barre and in the center. Ballet will help with strength, flexibility, and stamina. Ballet classes are very structured and disciplined.

Tumbling

Tumbling classes will start with a warm up, center work, and passes down the floor. A thorough warm up is necessary for developing strength, flexibility, and control, conditioning to prevent injuries, and developing body awareness and placement. Good form and proper technique is highly stressed. Students will learn individual skills, combination of skills, and will incorporate dance with tumbling skills.

Tumble Tykes

Every class will start with warm up exercises and stretches. This is necessary for developing strength, flexibility, and control. Basic tumbling skills are introduced at this level as well as coordination, balance, and limberness. Tumbling shoes required.

Tiny Tots Discover Dance

Tiny Tots Dance Class is creative movement, song, and dance will encourage social and motor development. Basic dance skills and terminology are introduced at this level as well as musicality, coordination, listening, and following directions. Tap and Ballet shoes are needed for this class. The Discover Dance Early Childhood Program is a series of movement classes designed to introduce children to the creative and expressive world of dance. Each program offers children the opportunity to develop their natural movement ability in a multi-sensory environment. Music, movement, visuals, and props will enhance your students' love of the art form and the unique conceptual approach to dance education will provide the opportunity for cognitive growth.

One special workshop is scheduled each semester to focus on one area of dance. These workshops may also feature a guest instructor. Students are invited to attend and experience a new area of dance to expand on their interest area.

Flip, Flop, and Fly Acro Camp

Join us for a night of amazing and creative tumbling. At Flip, Flop, and Fly Acro camp you will learn creative ways to tumbling, partnering tricks, limber ticks, and power tumbling. We focus on strength, flexibility, acro techniques, and many tumbling skills.

Summer Dance Intensive

Join us every year for our Summer Dance Intensive. We have some of the best choreographers in the city and also bring in special guest as well. This Dance Intensive is packed with 3 days full of classes learning new and exciting choreography in tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre and more and will definitely will push you to be your BEST.

Join us for an amazing summer camp for your young one. We have so much fun at our Summer Camp with so many things to do such as crafts, games, outdoor activities, dancing, and a performance at the end of the week. This camp is geared toward 3-6 years of age.
