Street Jazz/Hip Hop
Street Jazz/Hip Hop is a great class for spicing up your Jazz style. This class is unique not only in the style but also in that it is what we call a performance class - students will have the opportunity to learn choreography in class and perform at different festivals throughout the year. This class welcomes dancers of any age who are at an intermediate to advanced level.
Lyrical/Contemporary
An emphasis is placed on grace and fluidity, musicality and expressiveness to capture emotion through movement. Lyrical blends elements of ballet and jazz.
Jazz
Classes offer a range of styles from classic to contemporary jazz. Students develop technique and performance quality.
Combo
Combo is an age-specific class that offers students tap and jazz in one! Twinkle Babies for ages 2.5-3.5 years is a 30 min class; Combo I for ages 3-4 years is 45 min; Combo II for ages 5-7 years is 60 min; and Combo III for ages 8-10 is a 1.5 hour class. These classes will spend portions of the time working on a fantastic base and exposure to the basics of skills in Jazz and Tap, building on those elements and skills as the levels progress.
Ballet 2
Auditions for younger dancers (those in Movers, Pre-Ballet, Ballet 1 and Ballet 2) will be the morning of Sept 20. Older dancers will be cast during their ballet classes. Students from outside of SCB will also be welcome to participate!

There will be a master class with a San Diego Ballet instructor for intermediate & advanced ballet dancers. We highly recommend all qualified students take advantage of the opportunity to take this class.

Dancers will develop strength, coordination, and musicality through isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and classic choreography, emphasizing clean lines, strong posture, and the authentic jazz spirit.

Pre-Ballet
This class introduces ballet terminology and follows a traditional ballet class format, but without barre work. It includes warm-up, basic ballet steps, center movement, simple choreography, and free dance time. This class should be taken before or with Beginning Ballet I.
Movers
Movers classes, for 4-5 year olds, are based on creative movement and brain dance, using dance and music to develop creative and motor skills in our youngest students, and then developing into more genre-focused classes to introduce skills used in particular styles!

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking which was created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States.
Jazz 3

Pointe 4
Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles.
Variation 3/4
Variations are solo dances from classical ballets. Some are relatively modern, plucked from ballets of the last century, while others have been recreated from notes and illustrations of ballets nearly 200 years old. These solos can stand alone without the need of the whole ballet for context.
Ballet 5 & 6 + Pointe
This class is for students who are ready for increasingly challenging combinations while adding musicality, choreography, and artistry to their ballet technique.
Stretch and Strength
Classes are designed to develop strength in the hips, torso, and back through an intense anaerobic, no-impact workout based on Pilates. Students will acquire strength in the 'core' muscles, which can provide a leaner, longer look, improved posture, reduced lower back pain, and improved sense of movement. This class is designed for dancers and non-dancers alike, and anyone can benefit from Pilates-based training.
Modern 4
Our students are educated with a blend of historic Modern Dance styles including Graham, Horton, Limon, and Cunningham, as well as a contemporary approach to the art form. Students will learn how to express movement more fully in space with Modern’s wide range of movement possibility. We strive to refine students’ technique and alignment, cultivate students’ creativity, refine their sense of rhythm and challenge their minds, their strength, and conditioning. Modern Dance will improve and inform our ballet students, as both styles are interrelated.
Ballet 2
For students who have completed ballet I and are ready to commit to more formal training focusing on a strong technical foundation. A complete technique class with barre, center, and across the floor movement.
Ballet 6 + Pointe
Moving beyond the Intermediate Level. Center work will consist of an adagio, a tendu combination, jumps – including petit allegro and batterie, and pirouette preparations and turns. Dancers will begin to work on attitude positions, as well as, develop their grande rond de jambe and rond de jambe en l’air. Corner work will consist of jump, waltz, and various traveling combinations, including grande allegro, kept in time to the music. These combinations may exceed 2 eight counts of movement. Dancers will learn basic kinesiology and stage placement. They will be given literature on anatomy for dancers. dancers must have at least four years experience, take at least one other ballet class a week, and have the instructor’s permission to register for the class. Class is recommended for dancers ages 11 and up. Returning students should always refer to their spring evaluation to determine the appropriate fall class to take.
Ballet 1
Age 8-12 This class follows a traditional ballet class format, starting at the barre focusing on posture and alignment, continuing with stretching and strengthening exercises. Center movement and traveling steps are added as the class progresses. No former training is required.
Jazz 2

Dancers will develop strength, coordination, and musicality through isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and classic choreography, emphasizing clean lines, strong posture, and the authentic jazz spirit.

Hair pulled back and out of face.

Variations 5/6
Variations are solo dances from classical ballets. Some are relatively modern, plucked from ballets of the last century, while others have been recreated from notes and illustrations of ballets nearly 200 years old. These solos can stand alone without the need of the whole ballet for context. Learning variations is a very special way to learn about the history of ballet through the act of practicing these dances, with their unique stylizations and characters, while also serving as a great opportunity to simply dive into more ballet choreography. Please keep in mind that this class is different from most of our other classes in that students are not guaranteed to perform in the recital. However, they may perform at other events such as Festival of Trees and for the public schools! This class is meant for dedicated advanced students and most variations will be performed en pointe.
Pre-Ballet
Pre-Ballet provides an introduction to Ballet for young dancers ages 6 to 7. Classes are designed to teach the fundamental technical motor skills, musicality, motor coordination, and self-expression through the discipline of ballet.

Hip Hop Minis
Provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. Consists of warm-ups and across - the- floor exercises as well as a variety of combinations and urban dance moves from R&B and House to Club and Pop. Our Hip Hop classes utilize clean upbeat music from various genres in addition to the latest Hip Hop hits. The resulting outcome is an energetic class that not only teaches you hip hop movements and technique but also instills rhythm and precision in your muscle memory.
Adult Open Ballet
Age 14 & up This class is waiting for you! There is no other dance/sport out there like ballet. It is all inclusive, you have to strong, flexible, graceful, rhythmic, and tell a story with your body all at the same time. The ultimate workout. Bring a friend!

Mini Movers
The perfect class for our smallest movers; Mini Movers! This class is designed to be engaging and educational as the most basic elements of dance are taught. It's perfect for 2.5-3.5 year olds. Concepts of rhythm, space, body, energy, etc. are taught along with the timeless lessons of following directions.
Combo II

Modern 1
Limon, Graham, Horton, and Cunningham techniques are brought together to provide classes in contemporary movement. Students are challenged to develop individualized expressiveness and a strong sense of movement along with technique.

Adult Tap
This is an intermediate-advanced class. Open level means that we will all dance together so a few things will seem really easy to the old pros while a few things will be too hard for the beginner, but we all learn and progress and challenge ourselves together.
Street Jazz Hip Hop
NEW in 2024-25 is our Street Jazz style Hip Hop class! This class is unique not only in the style but also in that it is what we call a performance class - students will have the opportunity to learn choreography in class and perform at different festivals throughout the year. This class welcomes dancers of any age who are at an intermediate to advanced level. Street Jazz blends jazz technique with hip-hop and funk. It is high-energy, expressive, features sharp isolations, intricate footwork, and powerful gestures.
Adult Tap (Beg/Int)

This class is unique not only in the style but also in that it is what we call a performance class - students will have the opportunity to learn choreography in class and perform at different festivals throughout the year. This class welcomes dancers of age 15+ who are at an intermediate to advanced level.
