Ballroom performances

Wyatt Dybdal began his journey with partner dancing in 2014 when he joined the University of Nebraska Ballroom Dance Club. Having fond memories of watching Dancing With the Stars with his family, Wyatt took a chance auditioning for the performance team, and then spent the next 10 years performing and improving his skills. His love of dance led him to Nebraska Ballroom Dance for the opportunity to continue learning and sharing the joy of dance with others. Wyatt spent 10 years performing choreographed Ballroom performances, as well as volunteering his time to teach free dance classes for the UNL Ballroom Dance Club. He continues to seek out opportunities to expand his knowledge through seminars, workshops and certification through the Professional Dance Vision International Dance Association. Many of Wyatt’s closest friendships have come from his love of dance, and his enthusiasm for sharing that passion with others. As an Instructor, Wyatt hopes to encourage others to explore the many opportunities that lie within the world of dance. Nothing makes him more excited than sharing stories with friends and students about their various experiences dancing.

American Style dance

Sarah Pritchard, co-owner of Nebraska Ballroom Dance, started dancing at the age of 12 in 2007, after many years of both social and competitive ballroom dancing she decided to change her passion for ballroom dance into a career and pursue a life as a dance instructor. Sarah holds a Full Associate’s certification in American Style dance with ProDVIDA, the Professional Dance Vision International Dance Association. Teaching a wide range of students both social and competitive, she enjoys most helping students to achieve those “lightbulb” moments and watching them grow in their dancing.

Ballroom, Latin and Swing dances

Timothy Aksamit broadened his dance knowledge to Ballroom, Latin and Swing dances. His desire to share his passion brought him to teaching dance, part time, with his first instructor Shelley Fritz. Tim performed and competed in Amateur competitions throughout his early 20’s. Wherever he was, the Midwest, East Coast or England, he continued to grow his knowledge of partnership dancing. His passion for learning continues as he seeks further certification through the Professional Dance Vision International Dance Association. Throughout his years some of Tim’s favorite memories revolve around social dancing. Through teaching he hopes to bring this enjoyment to more people. Rather than seeing teaching as another job, Tim sees it as an opportunity to explore and share his favorite passion.

Ballroom

Shelley Fritz has taught dance and competed professionally since 1984, and expanded her studio to include The DelRay Ballroom in a renovated warehouse in the Historic Haymarket. She has received numerous teaching and performing awards, including Top Teacher in both the Midwest and Northwest Regions, 1st Place in the Fred Astaire Midwest Regional Championships, and she holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance with an emphasis in Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. With her wide range of dance knowledge she has been fortunate to perform and compete nationally. She has also taught the joy and love of dance to children and teens in both her ballroom and the public schools. She is most happy, however, having a ballroom where she can encourage dance to flourish in the Lincoln community.

lessons

I have very much enjoyed taking lessons at Nebraska Ballroom Dance this year. You can tell the instructors enjoy dancing and enjoy teaching others to dance. And the friendships I've made at NBD are as rewarding as the skills I've developed.

ballroom lessons

We bought ballroom lessons as part of a charity auction and were so impressed. Excellent instruction! I’m a long time dancer and my husband has two left feet and we could dance together by the end (not going to compete, but no more fights over attending dancing events)!

private lessons

We are taking private lessons and our instructor is fantastic! She is knowledgeable, easy to follow, listens to our questions, and is fun to work with. We really appreciate how she uses every minute of the lesson to teach and look forward to learning more from her.

classes

A wide variety of classes are offered as well as private lessons with excellent (and patient) instructors. We have enjoyed dancing and learning with NBD staff and other wonderful folks we have met through the dance studio.

dance lessons

One of the items on my bucket list when I retired was to take dance lessons. Nebraska Ballroom Dance showed up on my Facebook feed so I decided to check it out. It has been fun to be one of the first students in the recently opened Omaha location.
