In order to take pointe, students are required to take at least 2 ballet classes a week.

POINTE (BEGINNERS)

These classes have been carefully formulated to gradually warm up the feet and ankles for pointe as well as to build tolerance on the toes. Padding of the toes will be taught and suggested by the teacher so each student will learn how to best protect their toes. Exercises will be given at the barre and very few in the center. In order to start pointe, students will be required to take 2 ballet classes a week consistently and will have to be approved by the teacher first.

PRE-BALLET

Students will be introduced to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in ballet. They will do a short ballet barre and some fun stretches on the floor for flexibility, followed by arm exercises in the center and a few jumps. They will learn the 3 basic directions of the body and how to be aware of their spaces in accordance with other students in class. They will also be introduced to "balancing" on 1st and 2nd positions.

LYRICAL BALLET

This form of dance is a slight divergence of classical ballet, in which certain movements of the legs can be turned in instead of out, the elbows can be drooped among other modifications, but always having some classical ballet steps and movements in between these divergences. These movements or steps can be taught in either slow, medium or fast paces. Dynamic jumps and turns are a "must" in these classes. The music used for lyrical ballet is usually a song sung by singers (this is one of the reasons why it's called lyrical) or else instrumental. We recommend that students will have a good foundation of classical ballet first, in order to start learning lyrical ballet.

LYRICAL BALLET

LYRICAL BALLET IS A COMBINATION OF CLASSICAL BALLET WITH SOME DIFFERENT MOVEMENTS, USUALLY EXPRESSING WHAT THE SONG IS SAYING WHEN THERE IS A SINGER SINGING IT. IF THE MUSIC IS JUST INSTRUMENTAL, IT'S UP TO THE TEACHER/CHOREOGRAPHER TO GIVE THE STUDENTS WHATEVER HE OR SHE WANTS TO PORTRAIT FOR THAT PARTICULAR MUSIC. IT HELPS TO DEVELOP THE EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS SO STUDENTS CAN HAVE BETTER STAGE PRESENCE WHEN PERFORMING.
