Modern is a style o dance that was developed at the turn of the 20th century. This style of dance was developed to rebel against the norms of ballet and focuses on free movement and using the body as a whole. Modern dance is a very broad style that incorporates aspects from classical, folk, ethnic and social dance techniques. This class is offered for ages 12 & up in order to ensure that dancers have a clear understanding of technique and body mechanics.

Contemporary is a style of dance that was developed in the twentieth century. It was created by incorporating elements of many styles of dance such as ballet, jazz, and modern. Contemporary dance requires a strong core, and an understanding of ballet technique. In this style of dance we work on floor work, partnering, improvisation and more. This style of dance is recommended to our most advanced dancers with a good understanding of ballet technique.

Pointe technique is part of a classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work in which the ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of their fully extended feet within pointe shoes. Students must be at least 12 years of age with 4 years experience in ballet technique before making the transfer from demi shoes to pointe shoes. This class is only offered to our team members only. Dancers must have had at least 4 years of technique training and must receive approval from Mrs Jennie or Ms. Tori.

Lyrical dance can be a dance that was created by using the lyrics of the music to inspire the choreography. This style has elements of both ballet and jazz dance. We use both lyrical and contemporary dance to tell a story, to show an emotion, and to make the audience feel that emotion. Here at Kerry’s Dance Center we combine our Ballet classes with Lyrical. The dancers will be able to learn both styles and technique in one class.

For ages 3 and up, Ballet started in ballrooms during the Renaissance where social dance had intricate floor-plans. Today, ballet teaches strength, poise, and balance. Dancers are trained at the barre in order to develop correct posture and to prepare the body for the demands of classical dance.

This dance style combines simple gymnastics or acrobatics with jazz dancing for a fast moving sportive class for students ages 6 to 16.

Locking, popping, breaking. Hip hop is not a studio derived style of dance. Hip hop is more than 50 years old, but was originated in street dance crews in the United States. It has since developed into a popular style of dance that we now see on t.v., in movies, and at dance competitions.

The roots of jazz dance borrow from a melting pot. As we know it today, jazz is a blend of two main movements – folk dance and theatre dance. It teaches strength, power and flexibility and is performed to contemporary music. Jazz dance is lively, fun, and full of rhythm for all ages.

Tap dancing is an American art form. It is a step dance tapped out audibly with hard soled shoes. It was born in the 1800’s meshing a wide spectrum of percussive dance styles; African, English, Irish and Scottish. It teaches tempo and rhythm whether you like soft shoe or flash tap, whether you are 3 or 63!

PreSchool/Kinder Combo Class for ages 3-5. This class combines preschool and kindergarten age groups to foster early dance development and coordination.

Level 4 Jazz Team class. This is a performance-oriented team focusing on advanced jazz technique and choreography for competitive or showcase purposes.

Acrobatics class for ages 12 and up, including teens. Focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and acrobatic skills suitable for dancers.

Tap and Jazz combination class for ages 7-8. Introduces fundamental techniques of both tap and jazz dance in a single class.

Level 4 Lyrical Team class. This team focuses on lyrical dance, emphasizing fluidity, expression, and emotion through movement.

Musical Theater class for ages 12 and up, including teens. This class combines acting, singing, and dancing to perform musical numbers.

Lyrical and Ballet combination class for ages 7-8. This class explores the expressive qualities of lyrical dance alongside foundational ballet technique.

Required Ballet Technique class for Level 4 and 5 dancers. This class is essential for developing strong foundational ballet skills and artistry.

Hip Hop dance class for ages 12 and up, including teens. Learn the latest street dance styles and choreography in a high-energy environment.

Acro Jazz class for ages 9-11. This class blends the techniques of acrobatics with the artistry of jazz dance, focusing on flexibility and performance.

Acro Jazz class for ages 7-8. This class combines elements of acrobatics with jazz dance, suitable for developing young dancers.

Level 4/5 Classical Team class. This team focuses on classical ballet technique and repertoire, suitable for advanced dancers.

Hip Hop dance class for ages 9-11. Students will learn energetic choreography and develop rhythm and coordination in this popular dance style.

Tap Team Production class for all levels. This class focuses on advanced tap choreography and performance pieces for production numbers.

Kindergarten Combo Class for ages 5-6. This class combines fundamental dance steps for young children in a fun and engaging environment.

Preschool Combo Class for ages 3-4. This class introduces young children to fundamental movement, rhythm, and coordination through dance.

Jazz and Tap combination class for ages 12 and up, including teens. Develops skills in both jazz and tap dance styles.

Ballet class for ages 5-6. Introduces basic ballet positions, posture, and movement to young dancers.

Acro class for ages 5-6. Focuses on introductory acrobatic skills, strength, and flexibility for young children.

Beginner/Intermediate Jazz class for KDC Moms. Focuses on foundational jazz technique and enjoyable choreography for adult students.

Lyrical dance class for ages 12 and up, including teens. Emphasizes expressive movement, fluidity, and emotional storytelling through dance.

Beginner/Intermediate Tap class for KDC Moms. Introduces fundamental tap steps and rhythms in a supportive adult learning environment.

Beginner/Intermediate Lyrical class for KDC Moms. Focuses on expressive movement and basic lyrical technique for adult participants.

Lyrical and Ballet combination class for ages 7-8. Explores lyrical movement qualities alongside basic ballet technique.

Level 2/3 Jazz Team class. This class is for students developing their jazz technique and performance skills within a team setting.

Lyrical Ballet class for ages 9-11. This class combines the expressive nature of lyrical dance with the fundamental techniques of ballet.

Acro Jazz class for ages 7-8. This class combines acrobatic elements with jazz dance, focusing on flexibility and performance.

Level 2/3 Hip Hop Team class. Focuses on learning hip hop choreography and developing street dance style for team performance.

Hip Hop dance class for ages 9-11. Students will learn contemporary hip hop moves and choreography.

Level 5 Lyrical Team class. Focuses on advanced lyrical technique, expression, and performance for seasoned dancers.

Lyrical Ballet class for ages 7-8. Blends the grace of ballet with the expressive qualities of lyrical dance.

Level 5 Jazz Team class. This team focuses on advanced jazz technique, choreography, and performance.

Acro Jazz class for ages 5-6. This class combines basic acrobatic movements with jazz dance steps for young children.

Advanced Tap class for alumni dancers and KDC Moms. Focuses on challenging tap techniques and rhythms for experienced students.
