About New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI)

New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI), located in Keene, New Hampshire, is a vital 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education outreach organization dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through the transformative power of dance and music. Founded in 1986, NHDI has been bringing the joy of choreographed dance to students from kindergarten through eighth grade, empowering, enriching, and energizing all children while fostering confidence and inspiring excellence. NHDI's comprehensive programs introduce and develop fundamental movement skills at an accessible, introductory level, aiming to instill a lifelong love of the arts and a passion for learning and creativity. Their experienced teaching artists lead high-energy, engaging classes that nurture confidence, pride, and teamwork, teaching valuable lessons in discipline, hard work, commitment, and concentration. NHDI offers a diverse range of dance styles, including Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, and Musical Theater. The institute provides a variety of programs throughout the year, including year-long programs, special teams, residency programs, and engaging summer camps. The Year-Long Program brings weekly dance instruction directly to schools, led by professionally trained teaching artists accompanied by live piano music, exploring unique curricular themes and integrating dance with academic subjects. The culmination of this year-long journey is the spectacular "Event of the Year," an original theatrical production held annually at the Redfern Arts Center, often featuring a live orchestra. NHDI also offers intensive summer programs like the Dance Makers-Choreography Camp and Mess Fest-The Dance Edition. NHDI works with approximately 3,000 children annually throughout the schools of southwest New Hampshire, extending its impact throughout the community. Committed to accessibility, NHDI offers financial assistance to eligible students for both year-round and summer programs, ensuring all children have the opportunity to participate. While specific instructor names are not detailed, the institute emphasizes its dedication to fostering a love for movement and broadening dance horizons.

Classes

Ballet Extensions

Ballet Extensions performs in both Saturday and Sunday shows. Ballet Extensions is a dance class for young performers.

NHDI Residency Program

The NHDI Residency Program gives elementary and middle school children the opportunity to participate in our performing arts outreach program during their school day. Residencies are typically one week in length, during which all students dance. This gives everyone exposure to the arts, while many children might not otherwise have this unique and empowering opportunity. Through the arts, we challenge students to develop life-long skills, such as analytical thinking, clarity in expression, collaboration and creativity.

NHDI Year-Long Program

The NHDI Year-Long Program brings weekly dance instruction to children at school, during the school day, under the direction of professionally trained NHDI teaching artists with piano accompanists. Through the rigors of dance and the energy of live music, children directly experience the value of discipline, concentration and collaboration.

NHDI's Adaptive Dance team, REACH

NHDI’s Adaptive Dance team, REACH, partners age-matched peers with neurologically or physically diverse children to create and perform movement that is unique and specific to the participants.
