Classes

Ballet Tech/Pointe

Ballet Tech focuses on perfecting our feet and body lines. This is a supplemental class to ballet. Those interested in taking pointe are required to take tech for 2 years prior to pointe shoes. This class has both non pointe and pointe dancers in it. Pointe class concentrates on the transference of ballet steps from demi-pointe to pointe and is introduced only when a dancer has developed sufficient strength in the feet and legs necessary for this discipline. Students under the age of 12 are not allowed to use pointe shoes. Permission is needed by the instructor for transition into pointe shoes.

ACRO

This style of dance combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is physically demanding and teaches the dancers control and strength building exercises. Dancers will enhance their flexibility and muscle strength.

Hip-Hop

This class is high-energy and fun to learn some Old School style influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. Classes include conditioning and warm-up, simplified break down of each dance step, skill combinations and choreography. Students love learning these upbeat dance steps while moving to their favorite songs.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance's stress on the torso, and also employs contract-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance.

Jazz

Jazz dance is a uniquely American art form. A variety of styles will be taught from primitive to the classic jazz style. This class concentrates on proper technique, placement, strength, and style as well as increasing flexibility and muscle tone.

Tap

A rhythmic combination of technical movements and style, tap focuses on the intricate steps of the foot incorporated with upper body grace. Timing, Musicality, and Rhythm are concentrated on during class. Tap can be performed with or without the accompaniment of music while still showcasing technical skills and entertainment.

Flamenco/Salsa

Flamenco covers footwork and upper body technique focusing on correct use of core and supporting muscles and posture and positioning necessary to successfully execute movements. Repetitive, slow movements support dancers as they learn to combine steps in succession. We learn basic palmas (rhythmic hand-clapping) and how the baile (dance) relates to the cante (singing). Castanets, fans, shawls and batade cola (ruffled skirt with a train) are all used during this style of dance. Salsa will teach you how to listen to the music, so that you can step to salsa timing. This will help you to dance in connection with your partner or by yourself and to enjoy more of the music. You will then be able to incorporate and practice more salsa moves and combinations.

Ballet

Ballet requires strength and patience because of its difficult technical elements. Taking years to develop, the body is set in various positions and poses which require flexibility in the back, legs, rib cage, and feet. Dedication to the study over an extended period of time will increase fluidity, grace, and technique among other important elements of dance. Body placement, flexibility, alignment, strength and technique are achieved through barre and center floor work.
