Classes

Adult Jazz & Hip Hop

Adult Jazz and Adult Hip Hop are both based in the style of jazz/funk, with adult jazz utilizing more ballet technique and hip hop driving from the funk. These class incorporate syncopated rhythms, isolated body movements, and classic hip-hop and jazz moves. It's an amazing choice for adults looking to express themselves and break sweat in an upbeat environment with a strong focus on improving rhythm, coordination, and musicality.

Adult Ballet

Adult ballet classes can vary depending on the level and focus of the class, but they typically cover ballet fundamentals, technique, and body alignment. At PDS we offer an advanced beginner class for adults with some to none in dance experience. These classes introduce basic ballet exercises, body positions, and proper alignment. Standing barre work and center floor exercises will be given to enhance coordination, strength, balance and flexibility. They may also help students develop a professional attitude and become aware of dance studio practices.

Jumps & Turns

This class focuses on developing the strength, power, flexibility, and technique necessary for more advanced jumps and turns. An emphasis will be placed on proper body alignment, spotting, and turnout. The intermediate jumps & turns class is for dancers who have taken jazz for at least 2/3 years and want to improve their technique.

Pre-Teen & Teen Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance. In our Teen Ballet class, students will learn grace, posture, strength and coordination. At PDS, the techniques we teach in Ballet class are the basic framework for all different dance styles such as Jazz, contemporary, tap and more. Our ballet classes teach class discipline and respect for one another and the teacher. Pre-teen ballet is for beginners age 9-12 and teen ballet is for beginner/intermediate dancers age 12+. Pre-Teen & Teen classes are designed for beginner dancers to learn and grown comfortably with other beginners.

Acro & Lifts/Tricks

Acro is unique because it blends the beauty and elegance of dance with acrobatics. Intermediate Acro is for those who are experienced. This classes teach dancers how to build strength and flexibility to perform gymnastics-based tricks combined with classical dance techniques. In this class, students will perform conditioning exercises to prepare them for increased difficulty, flexibility, balance, strength, and coordination. In our Lifts & Tricks class, you must have acro experience. In this class students learn partnering, weight sharing, and how to apply acro tricks to lifts safely and correctly. At PDS we prioritize safety and proper form in our acro classes.

Broadway Jazz & Commercial Jazz

Commercial Jazz class combines jazz, funk, hip hop, and other dance genres. This classes incorporate little bits and pieces of these other dance genres by wrapping it into a funky style that is both fun and expressive! This feel-good class covers the basic understanding of jazz technique and includes exercises and dance moves that allow you to express your own unique style! On the other hand, Broadway Jazz, in addition to technique and performance skills, dancers are taught the history of songs, composers, artists, and musicals all while dancing to songs from a variety of Broadway shows. Broadway jazz is from ages 9-13 and Commercial Jazz is ages 8-10.

Contemporary Jazz Fusion

Combining the fluid movements and technical prowess of jazz dance with the creative freedom and improvisation of contemporary dance, contemporary jazz fusion is a thrilling style. This dynamic and energetic class combines elements of ballet, modern, and jazz. This class is for all levels and is the perfect class for students who want to gain or expand their knowledge of contemporary dance. Knee pads are recommended as this class does include floor work.

Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop classes requires high energy and attention to detail. Students will learn complex rhythms and syncopation. Hip Hop builds stamina, strength, and flexibility for dynamic and fun class and performances. Hip Hop classes are split based on age and level. Pre-Teen Hip Hop is for the beginner dancer age 9-12 and Teen Hip Hop is for the beginner / intermediate dancer who is age 12+. Pre-Teen & Teen classes are designed for beginner dancers to learn and grown comfortably with other beginners.

Lyrical

Our Lyrical classes combine the ballet and jazz techniques. Intermediate Lyrical is for those who are experienced in dance from ages 9-12. Students will using connecting and flowing movements to interpret music and inner emotions. This emotional expression is a critical element in lyrical dance. This dynamic dance form allows dancers to expand their knowledge of ballet and jazz techniques while challenging them to express their emotions and tell the story of music.

Jazz ll & Teen Jazz

Jazz ll is a structured class that teaches the discipline of dance and a strong technique, and Incorporates learning steps and choreography to upbeat and current music. An emphasis is placed on explanation of terminology, strengthening turns, leaps, flexibility, technical execution and proper body placement. It is a continuation of Jazz l, and for dancers age 8-10 or for dancers who have taken jazz before. Teen Jazz classes are high energy, upbeat and fun! Teen Jazz is a beginner class for dancers age 10+. Teen Jazz is designed for beginner dancers to learn and grown comfortably with other beginners.

Contemporary builds and teaches freedom of expression, interpretation of music, principles of fall and recovery, control, breathing, and balance. Contemporary Dance forms allow students to explore their individual dance style outside of the structure of traditional ballet and jazz classes. Contemporary classes are split based on age and level.Teen Contemporary is for ages 12+ who are beginner / intermediate and Diamonds Contemporary Technique is for the experienced dancer with at least 3/4 years of dance. Pre-Teen & Teen classes are designed for beginner dancers to learn and grown comfortably with other beginners.

Diamonds Ballet lll/Vl

Our Ballet lll/Vl class is for the student that has taken at least 4/5 years of ballet. This class is also age 13+ and has mandatory enrollment in both the Monday and Wednesday scheduled classes. The basic understanding of proper body placement and turnout must be established, as well as an understanding of the ballet terminology. Work at this level becomes quicker and more intricate.

Pre-Teen Ballet, Pre-Teen Jazz, and Pre-Teen Hip Hop

Pre-Teen Ballet, Pre-Teen Jazz, and Pre-Teen Hip Hop are beginner classes for students age 8-10 who are new to dance. In these classes, dancers are taught the basic elements of the dance technique while incorporating skills such as listening, counting, coordination, and social skills, all while having fun and feeling comfortable learning new skills with other beginners!

Tap I & II

Tap focuses on rhythms and patterns in footwork through proper technique, as well as personal style and producing clear sounds. Tap l introduces the basic steps and vocabulary of tap dance. This class is great for beginner dancers who like rhythm, footwork, and creative styling. Tap ll is for dancers who took Tap l the previous year or dancers who tap experience. Tap ll dives deeper into the technique with challenging skills in precision and rhythms.

Jazz I & II

Jazz provides students with a class that is upbeat, dynamic, and fun. Jazz l is for beginners or dancers who have taken pre-jazz/tap. They will learn the basic foundation including: terminology, turns, leaps, technical execution, alignment, and flexibility. Jazz ll is a deeper dive into the technique. Dancers are taught and reinforced skills, and intermediate skills are introduced.

Ballet I & II

In Ballet l students will continue to learn further skills, focusing on posture, strength, balance, coordination, and grace. The beginner ballet techniques, skills, and terminology are taught and reinforced, and intermediate skills are introduced. In Ballet ll intermediate skills are reintroduced and refined as artistry and execution of the technique are crafted in more detail.

Pre-Ballet II

Our pre-ballet ll classes are a continuation of pre-ballet l and builds the foundation necessary to jump, turn and move with proper balance and elegant body lines. A strong ballet foundation is essential to becoming a truly fine dancer in any dance form.

Pre-Jazz/Tap

Our Combo Tap & Jazz class is an introduction to style and basic of technique of the styles. Students will begin to learn Tap and Jazz terminology, turns, leaps, the technical execution and proper body placement, rhythm, and the producing of clear tap sounds. The class also focuses on learning steps and choreography to upbeat and current music!

Mini Hip Hop

In our Mini Hip Hop dance classes the children are introduced to the basic concepts of music, rhythm and movements of Hip Hop. They will learn spatial awareness, listening skills, group socialization and structure. Our goal is to make sure we nurture their natural creativity in a fun and loving atmosphere.

Pre-Ballet l & ll

Basic ballet training is essential for starting dance and helps develop an awareness of the body, as well as poise, grace and presentation. Our Pre-Ballet l class is an introduction to ballet and students will begin to learn ballet positions, movement, and vocabulary. Pre-Ballet l focuses on coordination, large motor skill development, musicality and listening skills.
