About Verdi Academy of Dance

Verdi Academy of Dance, nestled in the vibrant community of Las Cruces, New Mexico, invites dancers of all ages to discover the joy of movement. Specializing in a comprehensive dance education, the academy offers a range of disciplines with a strong emphasis on foundational techniques. Current offerings include various levels of Ballet, from Pre-Primary to Advanced, alongside dedicated Adult Ballet classes. The curriculum also extends to Modern Dance, with classes suitable for different age groups and experience levels, and Lyrical Dance for older students. For our youngest learners, the Melody Movement program provides an enriching introduction to dance for preschoolers. Taught by certified RAD instructor Veronica Edwards, this unique curriculum seamlessly weaves together music, movement, and fundamental learning skills, fostering a love for dance through imaginative play and engaging activities. This program emphasizes age-appropriate teaching methods, focusing on cognitive development and the well-being of young minds and bodies. Parents can observe children's progress through dedicated viewing windows, appreciating the high quality of instruction, including the distinction of a licensed RAD teacher, unique to the region. Verdi Academy of Dance operates on a semester system, with the Spring Semester commencing on January 5, 2026. The academy fosters a supportive environment for dancers to grow, develop their skills, and express themselves through the art of dance, with final class placement determined by experienced instructors.

Classes

Melody Movement

Perfectly designed with your toddler in mind. Play, movement and learning are woven together with music and Melody Bear. Your child will learn foundations of movement without even realizing it.

Modern Dance

The uniform for Modern Dance includes a black leotard and black footless tights.

Ballet Intermediate Foundation

For Ballet Intermediate Foundation, the required attire is a royal blue leotard, pink ballet tights, pink soft pointe shoes, and pointe shoes.

Ballet Intermediate/ Advanced

The uniform for Ballet Intermediate/Advanced consists of a black leotard, pink ballet tights, pink soft point shoes, and pointe shoes.

Ballet Grade 4

Ballet Grade 4 participants must wear a teal leotard, pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes with a full sole (no split soles), and a character skirt along with character shoes.

Ballet Grade 3

For Ballet Grade 3, students are required to wear a mulberry leotard, pink ballet tights, pink ballet shoes with a full sole (no split soles), and a character skirt with character shoes.

Ballet Grade 2

The uniform for Ballet Grade 2 includes a lavender leotard, pink ballet tights, leather ballet shoes with a full sole (no split soles), and a character skirt along with character shoes.

Ballet Grade 1

Ballet Grade 1 students need a navy blue leotard, pink ballet tights, pink leather ballet shoes with a full sole (no split soles), and a character skirt with character shoes.

Ballet Primary

For Ballet Primary, the required attire is a marine blue leotard, a marine blue Pskirt, pink ballet socks, and pink leather ballet shoes with a full sole; split soles are prohibited.

Ballet Pre-Primary

The uniform for Ballet Pre-Primary includes a lavender leotard, lavender Pskirt elastic, pink ballet socks, and pink leather ballet shoes with a full sole, and no split soles are allowed.

Melody Movement B

Students in Melody Movement B must wear a sky blue tank ribbon dress, pink ballet socks, and pink leather ballet shoes with a full sole, and absolutely no split soles are allowed.

Melody Movement A-2

The uniform for Melody Movement A-2 consists of a yellow tank ribbon dress, pink ballet socks, and pink leather ballet shoes featuring a full sole; split soles are not permitted.

Melody Movement A-1

For Melody Movement A-1, students require a pink tank ribbon dress, pink ballet socks, and pink leather ballet shoes with a full sole, explicitly excluding split soles.

All Level Boys

For boys in all levels, the uniform includes a white short sleeve t-shirt, black shorts or black leggings, and white ballet socks with white ballet shoes that do not have split soles.

International Dances

Students will learn various styles taught through character dances, commonly practiced in other countries such as Hungary, Poland, and Russia.

Melody Movement

Verdi Academy has classes designed for 3-6 year olds and uses a Pre-School dance curriculum from the Royal Academy of Dance and Melody Movement. These programs are perfectly designed and students will learn the foundations of movement without even realizing it!

Royal Academy of Dance Vocational (Major) Examinations

Vocational (Major) Examinations are designed to measure the progress of students 11 years of age and older who wish to become professional dancers or teachers, and a very high standard of execution is required. The examinations fall into five levels: Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced Foundation, Advanced 1, Advanced 2.

Royal Academy of Dance Graded Syllabus

The Graded Syllabus is designed to meet the needs of young people ages 6 and up who attend ballet class once or twice a week. The syllabus has been carefully structured by a panel of experts beginning with Pre-Primary and followed by nine levels of Primary through to Grade 8.
