Jazz

Tap

Tap dancing is characterized by the use of tap shoes fitted with metal taps on the heel and toe. Dancers use their feet to strike the floor, producing rhythmic and percussive sounds.

Tap

A percussive and audible style of dance where the metal taps on the heels and toes of the dancer’s shoes create novel rhythms and beats. In addition to offering tap classes for children ages 3-18, we also offer an adult only tap class for all levels!

Pre-K/Combination

Pre-K is a beginner level class for 3–4-year-olds. The focus of this class is to foster and inspire a love of dance and movement. The class focuses on exposure to basic dance steps in tap and ballet and many fun creative movement exercises. Combination is also a beginner level class, but for 4–6-year-olds. It is designed to give students knowledge of the three basic forms of dance: ballet, tap, and jazz. While this class is a bit more structured than the Pre-K curriculum, it still offers fun and engaging ways to help students learn to translate music to movement.

Musical Theatre

A form of dance that encompasses all other styles where routines are typically performed to music from Broadway musicals. Students will acquire stage acting experience as well.

Lyrical

Lyrical is an expressive form of dance that utilizes ballet technique. The goal of lyrical dancing is to translate the lyrics, meaning, or story of the song into movement. Students interested in lyrical must be enrolled in a ballet class.

Jazz

Jazz dance derives its technique from classical ballet, modern dance, and the current forms of popular dance. Jazz dance can be thought of as developing in parallel with popular music or as the physical embodiment of the popular music of a given time. The basics of jazz will assist dancers in all other forms of dance.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a ‘video style’ or ‘street style’ that evolved from hip-hop culture. It is a stylistic and high energy form of dance where the technique is strongly based in the student’s ability to master isolations. Hip hop can include various moves such as breaking, popping, and locking.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings. The choreography tends to explore new and innovative ways to move and shape the dancer’s body emphasizing creativity and expression.

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance. Ballet teaches proper body alignment, balance, grace, turnout, and how to work each aspect of the body and then to unify them. Ballet is a necessity for any student who wishes to advance in dance, desires challenge, someday hopes to teach or assist, or is considering a future in dance.

Acrobatics

A style that combines acrobatics and gymnastics with dance. This style requires specific attire for safety and to allow the teacher to effectively spot.
