DANCE TOGETHER FOR 2'S & 3'S

BROADWAY BOUND

ADC's Broadway Bound class is a program designed for the student who is interested in being a triple threat -- acting, singing and dancing. This class is geared toward boys and girls ages 9-12. The Broadway Bound Class will introduce your child to the performing arts all in ONE convenient location. Within this one hour class, we train and encourage our young artists on acting and scene study; Jazz dance and Vocal exercises and Voice lessons. This is an excellent program that will help your child discover his or her strengths and areas of interest. Our Broadway Bound class performs on stage at our Year End Annual Performances, and they also have an In-Studio Acting Showcase where they perform skits, monologues, and acting games they have learned in class throughout the year.

HIP HOP

Students will learn the foundation of Hip Hop, develop rhythmic awareness, build coordination and strengthen muscles with this fun and engaging class. Basic hip hop moves will be covered and elements of original choreography will be introduced. Students will have fun learning new moves and dancing to the top 40 tunes in this class.

TAP

Tap class focuses on technique, rhythm and musicality. Styles of tap taught are Broadway style and Rhythm and Swing tap. Tap classes not only challenge you physically but also mentally. It helps students’ truly feel and listen carefully to the beat or sometimes acapella (no music) tap, developing not only their musical ear, but also an inner sense of natural rhythm. It is highly recommended that students take a Ballet or a Jazz class in addition to Tap to help further develop their technical skills.

MODERN

This class emphasizes dynamic, full-body movements that are both energetic and dramatic, based in classic techniques. Learn to express yourself through movement while gaining strength and flexibility. The class includes a variety of exercises to strengthen and stretch the body, with emphasis on proper alignment, correct breathing, and abdominal strength. The class progresses from a warm-up, with combinations both on the floor and standing, to traveling movement including jumps and turns across the floor. Throughout all exercises, emphasis is placed on individual expression, musicality, and positive energy. This class is fun and exciting while giving students a strong technical base. Strongly recommended for anyone auditioning for NYC performing arts high schools!

JAZZ

Jazz classes are designed to develop technique, strength, flexibility and stamina through isolations, turns, jumps, progressions across the floor and fun combinations. Exploration of different jazz styles are introduced as students’ technique and level progress throughout the years, including Lyrical, Fosse, and Rockette style Jazz. There is a wide range of upbeat music in Jazz dance classes that keep the class energy uplifted and engaged.

POINTE

Pointe work is by teacher approval ONLY. Dancers who have trained for multiple years, take two ballet classes weekly and have developed sufficient strength in their ankles, upper body, and an excellent sense of self awareness in Ballet Technique will be eligible for Pointe work. It is extensive and difficult, but also so beautiful and rewarding to work hard and master Ballet technique en pointe.

BALLET

Our Ballet programs are held to the highest caliber. Focusing mainly on Vaganova technique, we strive to instill a sense of self awareness, classroom etiquette and discipline, proper posture and alignment, vocabulary and terminology, dance history, and learning how to execute ballet steps not just as steps, but as poetry in motion. There is so much beauty in the art of Ballet, and we want every dancer to reap the benefits of this fundamental dance form that will help and enhance all other styles of dance they choose to study.

PRE-BALLET

A classical form of dance that is characterized by grace, precision, formal gestures, steps and poses. The study of ballet does not unfold immediately as a whole. It is developed over a long period of time through a series of repetitive exercises done at the barre, in the center and across the floor. The Pre-Ballet levels offered at ADC are for children ages 5-7 and help prepare them for a more intensive training and progressive program with our Gemstone ballet classes.

PRE-DANCE I & II

Our popular Pre-Dance classes for children ages 3 to 4.5 years old, introduces children to various forms of dance and movement. The Pre-Dance class builds on our Dance Together for 2's & 3's but without the assistance of a parent or guardian. Any child that has turned 3 on or before September 1st of a new school year is eligible for this class. Our Pre-Dance classes consist of song and dance routines that teach and help develop gross motor skills, direction, rhythm, coordination, levels in space, along with balletic movement and an introduction to tap dancing. These fun but structured classes have been taught by experienced instructors and assistants for the past 42 years. Age appropriate music is always used in our Pre-Dance classes.
