Nina's School of Dance

Contemporary dance is the interpretation of thoughts, feelings, and stories. The use of acrobatics, ballet and modern are essential. This is for upper level classes.

Modern dance is the free formed movement, that includes release, and sustain, as well as fluidity of movement. Much like ballet, but with a less restricted technical attack. This is for upper level classes.

Lyrical is a form of dance that involves the interpretation of the lyrics with choreography and technique. This is for upper level classes.

Acrobatics dance is tumbling, with emphasis on flexibility, strength and control. All Ages.

Ballet is globally influential and has defined the foundational techniques used in many other dance genres. Ballet is the mother of all dance. Younger classes of ballet concentrate on alignment, terminology, music and enjoying the classical movement. All Ages.

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses on dance; it is widely performed in musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses on musicality, and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the jazz tradition. Nina’s teaches both, in upper classes. For younger children, the emphasis is on patterns and learning steps, appropriate terminology is used. All Ages.

Jazz dance is isolated free movement, with proper technique. It is performed with more upbeat music, and requires stamina, strength, and the knowledge of ballet, with the rhythm of tap.
