Adult Ballet Barre Fit Class

Art of Dance Ballet Barre classes focus on the physical as well as the aesthetic benefits of lengthening muscles, while strengthening them. We combine the barre method, pilates, yoga and ballet moves to give you beautiful, sculpted, lean muscles. This full-body workout is designed to give you shaped abs, toned legs, cut arms, and a high, lifted butt. Focusing on an isolated core with fitness exercises, alignment, flexibility and posture as you work through targeted mindful muscle movements.

AODC Classes

The Art of Dance Company classes are by audition/invitation only. These classes are for the more serious dancer that wants to take their artistic creation and development to the next level. There are two divisions within the company. The first division will only compete at 2-3 competitions per year while the second division with compete at 5-10 competitions per year. Please contact Kate Collins if you are interested or want more information regarding the AODC.

Hip Hop

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Tap

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.

Musical Theater/Theater Jazz

Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with Broadway style jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions.

Contemporary/Modern

Class begins with a guided improvisation investigating ideas of weight, effort level and sensation. The aim is to help students increase awareness of both intrinsic motivations as well as the body’s relationship to space. These concepts are further explored and developed through more traditionally structured exercises. This class will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation.

Lyrical

Lyrical combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Students will explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. Ballet is recommended but not required at the beginning levels.

Jazz I, II, III

Jazz classes focus on increasing strength and flexibility while developing proper technique. The goal is to gain a sense of musicality, learn proper jazz vocabulary and develop artistry and performance skills.

Ballet I, II, III

Each class begins at the barre with appropriate exercises to develop strength, balance and flexibility. Next center floor work is performed adagio (slow) and allegro (fast) movements. Center floor combinations, across the floor combinations and turns and leaps are covered in each lesson. Ballet is the true foundation for any dance discipline and is essential to a dancer's evolution. With the discipline of ballet technique students advance in grace, strength, coordination, flexibility and fluidity. After developing the essential technique through the ballet levels, students may be recommended by their teacher to study Pointe.

Tap & Jazz Combo Class

This class is designed for the beginner/intermediate young dancer. The Ballet I class is also suggested in combination with this class to ensure proper technique although it is not required. The 30-minute Jazz/Hip Hop portion of the class contains an introduction to proper warm-ups and stretches for the body as well as across-the-floor progressions and mini combinations. The 30-minute Tap portion is focused on learning how to articulate the feet, shift and place weight properly and continuing to develop rhythm and coordination.

Ballet & Tap Combo Class

This class is designed for the beginner dancer. Each lesson is an introduction to the enchanted world of ballet and tap. Basic dance principles are introduced in a playful, creative manner while ensuring proper skill development for future training. Coloring sheets are offered to reinforce the vocabulary and steps learned during each class. Two dance routines will be performed in the recital, one ballet and one tap.

Dance

Dance is one of the elective courses offered as part of the homeschool program, providing enrichment not typically found in school curricula.

Tumble Tots

Ages 6 & Under. This class is designed for young children to develop fundamental tumbling skills in a fun and safe environment. Focuses on basic coordination, balance, and motor skills.

Adult Hip Hop Cardio Class

Hip Hop is an art of dance form in and of itself. This class takes standard hi/lo aerobics moves and gives them a bit of style. The high-energy dance class is the most fun way to shed weight. Set to the latest hip-hop music, this lead/follow class will give you a work-out and a bit of a dance lesson too. Around 8 songs are played in each class and used for 8 week periods so you can learn the routines and feel confident with them by the end of the session. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. No previous dance training is required.
